LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Adeena (St. John - Burlington, Illinois), Eunice (LCC Staff), and Mary (St. Paul's - Janesville, Wisconsin) were called to provide comfort to the family and friends of Grant R. Mullen of Janesville, Wisconsin, who died in an automobile accident at the young age of eighteen.
Grant was a very active young man who spent his youth doing anything that kept him moving. In middle school, he was chosen to go to China as part of the foreign language program. He was a four-year varsity letter winner in track and field and wrestling, serving as captain in both his senior year. He had an adventurous spirit, which encouraged him to squeeze the most out of his 18 years.
It was no surprise to see the outpouring of comfort and support to Grant’s family from family and friends. The high school Grant attended was right across the street from the funeral home. Estimates of six hundred or more mourners were lined up for over four to five hours to pay their respect to the family. They parked their cars at the high school and walked across the street to pay their respect and grieve together. The support for his family was a true testament to the people Grant touched.
Two large Hearts of Mercy & Compassion were available for mourners to sign messages to Grant’s family. The hearts were full of messages of love and encouragement.
