$4,450 Needed to Provide Myanmar School Scholarships for 72 Students

4/25/2018

While most of our schools will soon be closing for the summer, June 1st will be the opening day for the schools in Myanmar (formally Burma). Last year, because of your generous gifts, Lutheran Church Charities was able to provide scholarships for 70 children to attend school in Myanmar.

Since 2011, LCC has been raising funds for scholarships so that the children of Pastor Edwards' church can attend school. The scholarships cover the cost of fees, textbooks, exercise books, school bags, pens, pencils, rulers, erasers, correction pens, colored pencils, compass boxes, school uniforms, and rain coats or umbrellas. Education in Myanmar only costs $25 - $150 per student for five months of school. $4,450 will cover the cost of educating all 72 students.
LCC received this update and request from Pastor Edwards:

Dear LCC,
Greetings from Yangon.

Hope that all LCC staff are fine and well by the grace and blessings of God.

It is great and amazing that all my 70 students passed their exams. I am very happy that 2 students from Grade 11 got very high marks. So they are ready to enter university. So I put them in my scholarship request this year.

Here is my scholarship request to LCC.

Primary class
10 students × $25 = $250

Middle class
24 students × $50 = $1,200

Higher class
36 students × $75 = $2,700

University
2 students  × $150=  $300

Total cost: $4,450

I and my church trust that God will surely bless my poor students again this year.

This year my country economy is not good. Many rich persons (army personnel) do not invest in my country. So there are no jobs for lower people. (hard laborers)

Please pray for my country and poor people.

I and my members pray for this scholarship request and for LCC donors on a regular basis.

Again, thanks for your kindness and love to my students.

Blessings,
Rev. Charles Edwards
Pastor

Run for Respect 5K

4/24/2018

The Run for Respect Virtual 5K Run is being held in conjunction with the fifth annual Run for Respect 5K supporting Special Olympics at Pontiac Township High School in Pontiac, Illinois, held on April 21. LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Bethany (Trinity – Danville, Illinois), and Comfort Dogs-in-Training Amos and Seth were present to cheer on the runners before the event and comfort them after. Bethany Comfort Dog participated in the 1 mile walk/run event.

LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Aaron (St. John’s – Napa, California) heard about the event and joined in the fun “virtually” to support this great cause by running alongside his handler. Their local high school Peers in Action group and the Special Education Life Skills classes have been working with Special Olympics Project UNIFY to SPREAD THE WORD TO END THE WORD.

Virtual runners participated from all 50 states and all 7 continents. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7.

Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Green Bay, Wisconsin, hosted the LWML District 19 convention on Saturday, April 21, in which LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry Dog Britta (LCC Squad) with her handlers Veteran Dale and Joyce Sasse were invited to attend. Chaplain R. Schultz was the guest speaker. His presentation was about being a chaplain and the needs of our active military when away from home and how we can support them. The next day, Dale and Joyce were able to share information regarding why and how their home church, Immanuel Lutheran in Freeport, Illinois, supports active military, veterans and their family, as well as the role the LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry Dogs take in providing support, mercy and compassion to our military who have given so much for our country.
