Our second stop was at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Santa Clarita, California for their Vacation Bible School (VBS). The children chose the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog ministry and teams Reuben and Aaron for their mission outreach this year. Pastor Joe agreed to do the “ice bucket challenge” if the children raised over $1,000 for the Comfort Dog ministry. Well, the children ended up raising over $1,400 for us to benefit the ministry! Pastor Joe was such a good sport as he was drenched with a bucket of ice and cold water.
One of the highlights of the visit was meeting a sweet boy who was grieving the loss of his golden retriever. He touched their hearts when he said, “Reuben and Aaron are like furry medicine!” Finally we visited St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Orange, California, for their special event, “Servant Sunday.” Comfort Dogs Reuben and Aaron, along with their handlers, were able to meet so many wonderful people and share a bit about our ministry as they put together items to be distributed in their community.
LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Peace’s Bible verse is Hebrews 12:14 “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”
Trinity’s handlers and ministry partners are able and willing to serve those who are suffering and in need in Orlando, Florida, and the surrounding communities. The handlers will bring a little peace to many people who God has called them to serve. LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Julia met and trained with her new King of Glory Lutheran Church handlers. The King of Glory team is excited to work with Julia doing outreach ministry. Julia will be triple-vested as a LCC K-9 Comfort Dog, LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry Dog, and LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog. LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Julia’s Bible verse is Romans 8:38-39 “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Lutheran Church Charities is blessed to welcome these two churches to the LCC K-9 Ministry. We ask that you keep the teams in your prayers as they go out to serve others in the name of Christ to bring the Mercy, Compassion, Presence, and Proclamation of Jesus Christ to those who are suffering and in need. Little Children Suffering! Jesus said: "And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me." Matthew 18:5 Jesus said: "Suffering little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 19:14 Two LCC staff and affiliate LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs have been deployed to centers and are currently serving displaced children. Lutheran Church Charities has received invites, and we imagine we will continue to receive invites, for the LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs to be present with children who are displaced from their families because of the current situation. Displaced children are in shelters in at least 15 states. LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry has K-9s in 23 states. LCC does not get involved with the "politics" of events - but we cannot ignore the plight of helpless children who are frightened, alone, and in need of comfort. LCC will be deploying our Comfort Dogs to the centers and ministries that are housing and temporarily holding children who have come into our country. LCC will not be disclosing the locations of where we will be. We will be working with the many dedicated workers who are taking care of the children. LCC never charges those we serve. We cover all of our transportation, lodging, and meals by the generous donations of those who believe and support what we do and our Mission - to share the MERCY, COMPASSION, PRESENCE, and PROCLAMATION of JESUS CHRIST to those who suffer and are in need. Please keep all the children in your prayers as well as all people involved. Thank you for your prayers and support. Serving Together, Serving Others, in the Name and Presence of Jesus. Tim Hetzner
