Ezra Comfort Dog Acknowledges Child Abuse Awareness Month

LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ezra (LCC Staff) and his court system handlers acknowledge Child Abuse Awareness Month (April) with 183 blue pinwheels representing the 183 child victim felony cases indicted in 2019 in Lucas County. The pinwheels are displayed around tree planted in honor of all victims of crime in Lucas County.

Working with the Prosecutor’s office in Lucas County, Ohio, LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ezra has been placed in the primary role of bringing a calming presence to those in the court system. This placement provides LCC with a new ministry opportunity to bring a Christian presence to those who may not know Jesus Christ without proselytizing.

LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ezra Greets Visitors at Toledo / Lucas County Open House

LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ezra (LCC Staff), placed in the primary role of bringing a calming presence to those in the Lucas County Court System, is on his second month working with those involved in the Toledo, Ohio courts. He and his handlers are doing fantastic work in cooperation with the Lucas County Prosecutor’s office, the sheriff’s office, and victim advocates. While the stories of the comfort they are bringing during court cases is confidential, the effect Ezra Comfort Dog and his handlers are having has made an incredible impact in the lives of those facing difficult circumstances, which includes children testifying in situations of abuse, their families, the workers of the court system, and others. These are chilling, harrowing stories that are hard to hear, but the team is in the middle of it all bringing mercy and compassion to those who are suffering and in need.

On Friday, January 26, LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ezra greeted visitors during an Open House Event at the new satellite office of the Toledo / Lucas County Victim Witness Assistance Program. This event was held for the Latino community to meet lawyers, prosecutors, and victim advocates who specialize in their cases and to learn about the services they provide.

LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ezra has Reported for Duty in Lucas County!

LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ezra, specifically placed by Lutheran Church Charities to the Lucas Country Court System in Ohio, has recently started his first days at the courthouse. He will be working on cases that are difficult to imagine, stepping into situations that are heart wrenching, but he and his handler will be right where Our Lord has put them to bring mercy and compassion to those in need.

Ezra Comfort Dog remains an LCC owned staff dog supported by you, though he is handled by the great team at Trinity Lutheran Church in Toledo, with help from victims' advocates, the sheriff's office, and through a special invitation by the prosecutor's office.

LCC launches new K-9 Outreach Ministry serving the Court System Prayers, Support and Sponsorship needed to help us launch this New Ministry

Whether comforting others daily within the communities they serve, or reaching out to individuals during times of disaster or crisis, Lutheran Church Charities brings the mercy, compassion, presence and proclamation of Jesus Christ to those suffering and in need.

The LCC K-9 Ministry will now bring the same mercy and compassion to individuals during court system situations. In many cases, individuals often experience a range of emotions, including anxiety and even fear, while going through adoption, cases of abuse, or other legal processes where testimony is required. Working with the Prosecutor’s office in Lucas County, Ohio, LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ezra has been placed in the primary role of bringing a calming presence to those in the court system. This placement provides LCC with a new ministry opportunity to bring a Christian presence to those who may not know Jesus Christ without proselytizing.

LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ezra will remain an LCC owned staff dog to maintain a separation of church and state. His court system scheduling will be handled through the Prosecutor’s Office in coordination with LCC and Trinity Lutheran Church in Toledo, Ohio. LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ezra will have three court system handlers, two victim advocates and one Deputy Sheriff, plus handlers from Trinity Lutheran Church. LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ezra will have caregivers from Trinity Lutheran, who is also the home to LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Anna.

LCC will be covering the cost of the K-9 Comfort Dog, veterinarian expenses, food and care for the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog. Individual or Corporate Sponsors are also being sought. Please consider donating to help cover the cost for LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ezra as they serve those in need.
