At Lutheran Church Charities, we are dedicated to helping families facing difficult times. Many families struggle to make ends meet in these challenging times due to job loss, medical emergencies, or other unforeseen circumstances. Through partnership and collaboration with our LCMS congregations, our Human Care Ministry provides help to individuals, clergy support staff, and congregations. Through this partnership, we contribute to soup kitchens, food pantries, lending closets, aid for refugees, veterans, and more.
"Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.” (Isaiah 58:7) Now, in response to the pressing needs of families in crisis, we are introducing an emergency fund. This fund is designed to swiftly provide assistance to families facing hardships. In today's uncertain climate, with job losses, medical emergencies, and unexpected challenges, many families find themselves struggling to make ends meet. With your gifts of support, the LCC Emergency Fund from Lutheran Church Charities aims to offer immediate financial relief to these families, providing a lifeline in their time of need.

New Life Lutheran Church

We received a request from Pastor Aaron Platzer from New Life Lutheran Church in Rockford, Illinois, to assist a widower who lost his wife to cancer last year and is currently struggling financially.
Rik and his wife have been long-time members of New Life Lutheran Church in Rockford, Illinois. In December 2022, Rik’s wife, a Lutheran Deaconess, passed away from her battle with cancer. Rik has struggled with immobilizing grief so the church is walking alongside him to help him recover spiritually, emotionally and financially from a very difficult situation.
Rik was the sole caregiver for his wife as she battled cancer. He spent all his time compassionately caring for her as she was shuffled across the state from one doctor to another. During that season he struggled to maintain his house and can no longer live in it. He is working hard to make mandated home repairs so he can go back home. Last week his car stopped working and he no longer has a means for transportation.
Rik has very little financial resources to repair his vehicle so the church has advocated on his behalf to raise funds to go towards the car repairs. He still needs $2,600 to cover the remaining costs of the repairs. Having a working vehicle will provide Rick with needed transportation to participate in grief share, stay connected to his church and to continue making repairs on his home.
