Your Donations Make a Difference

LCC Thanks Our Donors for Their Compassionate Hearts and Generosity
Donations were presented to Pastor Stephen Kass of Family in Faith Lutheran Church in Glendale Heights, Illinois, to help support their Neighborhood Food Pantry that continues to operate following the necessary guidelines due to COVID-19. The pantry serves anyone living in DuPage County and is open one day a week providing essentials, non-perishable food items, and pet food.
Picture
The coronavirus has brought a greater need for food because of the loss of income for families. Last week around 135 bags were given out when the pantry planned on 70.

If you wish to donate food, there are some specific instructions to follow. Please contact the pantry at 630-903-8173 for instructions and to arrange delivery times.

Additional donations were presented to Pastor Greg Hoffman of St. Paul in Rochelle, Illinois for a family who lost everything when their home burned down to the ground on February 14. The family of six found a temporary home for rent and the funds will help them in the rebuilding process. The current need is met.

The family is grateful and feels blessed from the gifts of God's people with hope of a new home.

Thank you to all at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palatine, Illinois, who helped make crocheted bag mats from plastic grocery bags for the homeless.

On Saturday, May 16, a group of volunteers met up with Pastor Jason Pankau of Chicago Hope Church and filled his vehicle with 33 sleeping mats for the homeless that their congregation serves. Thank you for your time and this donation that will make a difference in people’s lives and gives the members of Chicago Hope the opportunity to be Jesus to people who are suffering and in need.

Trinity Lutheran Church in Hicksville, New York Delivers Mercy Hearts

Soon after the Governor removed restrictions, Trinity Lutheran Church & School in Hicksville, New York, home of LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Abraham, had boots and paws on the ground delivering comfort and compassion. They have been in the epicenter of the coronavirus with over 39,837 positive cases in his county of Nassau and 38,164 in the neighboring Suffolk County. Abraham Comfort Dog has been seen participating in birthday and graduation parades but he couldn't wait to go back out and thank first responders, call center operators, nurses, doctors and anyone who he could just give a hug to. Here are just a few of the visits he made with his handler this past week:
A Mercy Heart was delivered to Laura Stengl who has been a huge friend of the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry. One of Abraham Comfort Dog’s favorite visits was to her father, Charlie, an NYPD retired Police officer. Charlie passed away during this pandemic, so Abraham Comfort Dog and his handler presented to Laura a Mercy Heart with a Thin Blue Line from his K-9 Police Ministry.
Picture
Abraham Comfort Dog and his handler met with Scott DiPino, Paramedic Supervisor of the Nassau County Police Department. Scott is an alumni of Trinity Lutheran School and highly regarded in Nassau County as a Paramedic. He has unselfishly served the County during the pandemic and we were blessed to present a deserving Mercy Heart with a Thin Yellow Line for Scott’s dedication and tireless service to others.
Picture
Abraham Comfort Dog and his handler took time to thank some of the men and women of the Hicksville Volunteer Fire Department. His hometown first responders have answered call after call and truly represent what it means to serve.
Picture
The last stop Abraham Comfort Dog made was to Nurse Coty. She is a nurse of 25 years working with The Visiting Nurses of New York. She sees many patients after they come home from the hospital. On her ID badge, she wears a Super Mario button in memory of her co-worker who died from COVID-19.

Please join LCC in praying for individuals, families, essential workers, and first responders as they adjust to a new normal in the hardest hit area of New York.
Thankful for Courageous Completion of Chemotherapy

A Mercy Heart was requested by Neil Sobel of Immanuel Lutheran in Palatine, Illinois, for their family to present to daughter, Jen, for her brave completion of chemotherapy and her spirit-filled heart and trust in the Lord. Neil requested Psalm 46:1 for the fish, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Continued prayers for strength for Jen and her family.

First Responders at Windsor Severance Fire Rescue Given Comfort & Prayer

LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Cubby and her handler (Redeemer – Fort Collins, Colorado) were invited to Windsor Severance Fire Rescue to bring a little comfort to this crew who experienced the tragic drowning of a 13-year-old boy on May 7. The team honored them with Essential Workers are our Heroes signs at their station last week. They also signed a Hearts of Mercy & Compassion, Crosses for Losses Mercy Heart in honor of Mason that will be presented to his family. Please pray for this family and continue to pray for all frontline workers and first responders as they selflessly continue to do what they have been called to do – to serve others.

Redeemer Lutheran Church Comforts Family on Memorial Day

On Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Cubby and two of her handlers (Redeemer – Fort Collins, Colorado) presented a Mercy Heart to the family of Garrett, a 28-year-old young man who is remembered for his goofy sense of humor and his big heart! His mother, Barbara, is a ministry partner with Redeemer’s in process team for their second LCC K-9 Comfort Dog. They were blessed to spend time with Barbara, her son Michael, his wife Selam and her grandson Marcus. Cubby Comfort Dog gave hugs and comfort to everyone while they talked, laughed, cried, and prayed together. Barbara remarked, "Thank you so much for this wonderful remembrance of Garrett – it means so much!" May God grant peace to his family during this time of grief and sadness.

Comfort Dogs Surprise New Nurses With a Virtual Visit

5/26/2020

On Tuesday, May 19, LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Cubby (Redeemer - Fort Collins, Colorado), Ezra (LCC Staff), Levi (Immanuel - East Dundee, Illinois) with their handlers, and St. Andrew's - Stockton, California (in Process) made a surprise virtual visit with a group of new nurses at Amita Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Illinois who were meeting from their homes separately.

"They didn’t know that we were going to join their Zoom meeting so when we entered, we had surprise signs in front of our cameras! These nurses joined Amita just as the pandemic was starting. Some of them even brought their own pets to the meeting!"

The K-9 Ministry teams shared the K-9s Bible verses with the nurses. Ezra Comfort Dog did a rise command, Cubby Comfort Dog did a lap command and Levi Comfort Dog did a table command. One nurse commented that even though they couldn’t pet the dogs it really meant a lot for them to just see the dogs and how the handlers worked with the dogs doing the commands.

The four K-9 Ministry teams said a short prayer before they signed out of the meeting.
