Students, Faculty, and Staff Flee from Active Shooter During 1st Period Classes
9 Students & 1 Teacher Killed, Officer Critically Wounded, Others Injured, and Many Traumatized

As Santa Fe High School students in Galveston, Texas, prepare for the end of their school year, a 17 year old student entered an art classroom during 1st period and began shooting on Friday, May 18.
 
LCC has been invited by Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas, to respond to yet another horrific school shooting that also includes explosive devices found at the scene and in the community.
 
Four LCC K-9 Comfort Dog teams will be in the community today working with and through Gloria Dei: LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Damaris (Memorial Lutheran – Katy, Texas), Gabriel (Messiah Lutheran – Houston, Texas), and Abner and Martha (Bethany Lutheran – Austin, Texas).  Additional teams arriving on Saturday include: LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ruthie (LCC Staff), Pax (St. Paul – Fort Worth, Texas), Elijah (Our Redeemer – Wichita Falls, Texas), and Joy (Comfort Dog in Training) with more arriving on Sunday.

Gloria Dei has students who attend Santa Fe High School and is in the process for an LCC K-9 Comfort Dog. They have already deployed staff to the hospital to be with impacted families and first responders.

LCC never charges those we serve. It has allowed us, without hesitation, to go when and where we are invited. The nature of our deploying comes with a cost, as last minute travel is generally the most expensive. So we rely on your generosity to help us serve those who are suffering and in need.
