Stars and Stripes Honor Flight

Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (AM) - Wisconsin

LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Charity (Brookfield Lutheran - Brookfield, Wisconsin), and Rhoda (Prince of Peace - Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin) with their dedicated handlers were up very early in the morning on Saturday, October 7, to be at Milwaukee's Mitchell Airport to warmly greet 221 veterans.

They arrived to check in for the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight known as the Flight of Champions to fly into Dulles International Airport. Then, they headed to the memorials in Washington D.C., honoring our country's dedicated military men and women who courageously served the United States of America.

LCC Kare 9® Military Ministry Dogs  Amos (Our Savior's Way - Ashburn, Virginia) and LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Kezia (Emmanuel - Baltimore, Maryland) arrived at Dulles International Airport to greet the veterans arriving from Wisconsin. Our Savior's Way congregation members were invited to join the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog  ministry teams, and several families and veterans came out for this special event.

Honor Flight veterans do not know there will be a welcome waiting for them when they arrive to visit the memorials in D.C. This surprise makes for an emotional arrival as we are present to provide the love and appreciation that our nation's heroes genuinely deserve.

The handlers and ministry partners offered hugs or handshakes, smiles, and cheers to each of the 221 WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War veterans. As Amos and Kezia's teams thanked them for their service and connected in a veteran-to-veteran moment, the veterans and their guardians experienced God's love through our presence. Many of them sincerely thanked the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog ministry teams for being there, while others struggled with emotions as we honored their service and sacrifice.

Later that night, LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Charity (Brookfield Lutheran - Brookfield, Wisconsin), Hagar (Faith Lutheran - Appleton, Wisconsin), Sage (Concordia University Wisconsin - Mequon, Wisconsin), and LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry Dog Mary (St. Paul's - Janesville, Wisconsin) greeted the veterans as they arrived back from their trip.

The LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs and their faithful handlers lined up to welcome the veterans as they walked toward the parade starting point. The smiles that appeared on the faces of the veterans as they saw so many waiting to welcome them back was a beautiful moment.

We thank God for the women and men who have served our country with honor, sacrifice, and courage and those who continue to do so today.
