Over the last two weeks, LCC K-9 Ministry teams responded nationally to multiple emergency site visit requests to bring comfort and presence to those suffering and in need. Funeral for NYPD Officer Wilbert Mora The NYPD and community gathered on Wednesday, February 2, for the funeral of Officer Wilbert Mora. LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog Abraham (Trinity - Hicksville, New York) and his LCC K-9 Police Ministry handlers George and John were present to share God’s love and comfort. LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog Abraham and his Police Ministry handlers were invited by Project Thank A Cop to be there for the grieving officers. George and John have spent many years in law enforcement and volunteer their time to serve with LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog Abraham those in their community with the Mercy, Compassion, and Presence of Jesus Christ. Officer Tyler Lenehan’s Memorial, Elk Grove, California Last week the police community, family, and friends came together to honor the life and service of Officer Tyler Lenehan, Elk Grove, California Police Department, who died in the line of duty on January 21. It was an inspiring memorial service as fellow officers and family shared Officer Lenehan’s deep faith and trust in God. LCC K-9 Police Ministry handlers James with LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog Reuben (First Lutheran - Yuba City, California) and Police Ministry handler Ken with LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog Aaron (St. John’s - Napa, California) were present to listen and comfort the officers who attended Officer Tyler Lenehan’s memorial. James and Ken have served as law enforcement and now dedicate their time volunteering as handlers with the LCC K-9 Police Ministry. Also present were LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Micah (Light of the Valley - Elk Grove, California) and Rahab (St. Andrews - Stockton, California) and their handlers. They brought comfort and love to those grieving the loss of Officer Lenehan. Rahab Comfort Dog and her handler spent time with the dispatcher that sang during the service. The dispatcher shared what a tremendous comfort it was having the LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs there for the memorial service. We pray for Officer Tyler Lenehan’s family, friends, and fellow officers to be strengthened and comforted by God as they continue to grieve his loss. Parkland Preparatory Academy On Tuesday, February 1, LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Benjamin (LCC Staff), Eve (St. John’s - Lombard, Illinois), and Tobias (Lord of Glory - Grayslake, Illinois) served at Parkland Preparatory Academy in Oak Lawn, Illinois, to give love to the staff and students grieving the loss of their beloved teacher Mr. King. The LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs and their handlers brought smiles and laughter, even for just a short time. Seniors Jalen and Angela especially loved on the comfort dogs. Psalm 73:26 Visitation for Prospect Heights (IL) Mayor Nicholas Helmer On Wednesday, February 2, the LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs and LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry Dogs were a comforting and calming presence at the visitation for Prospect Heights Mayor Nicholas Helmer, who passed away on January 26. Nicholas Helmer served as the Mayor of Prospect Heights, Illinois, for eleven years, where he lived and raised his family for over forty years. Prospect Heights is a tightly knit family, and the passing of Mayor Helmer has been a devastating loss for the community. Mayor Helmer touched many lives as mayor, coach, pilot, U.S. Army veteran, businessman, husband, father, and grandfather. Mayor Helmer worked with Lutheran Church Charities many times during his term. He was very supportive of all of the LCC Ministries. LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Benjamin (LCC Staff), Emma (LCC Staff), Hannah (LCC Staff), Julia (King of Glory - Elgin, Illinois), Malachi (St. Matthew - Hawthorn Woods, Illinois), Myra (St. Andrews - Park Ridge, Illinois), Ruthie (LCC Staff), Samson (Zion Lutheran - Marengo, Illinois), Tobias (Lord of Glory - Grayslake, Illinois), and LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry Dogs Blitz (LCC Squad) and Flex (LCC Squad) along with their handlers and ministry partners were blessed and honored to be there to help comfort those in attendance with the mercy, compassion, and presence of Jesus Christ.
