Lutheran Church Charities K-9 Comfort Dogs were invited by Pastor Keith Ringers and his wife Diana of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Elberta, Alabama, to be with their community after the devastating Hurricane Sally.

Arriving last Thursday evening, LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Lizzie (Trinity - Savannah, Georgia), Luke (Christ the Shepherd - Alpharetta, Georgia), and Peace (Trinity - Orlando, Florida) with their Ministry teams paid private outdoor visits with Diana Ringers to two families.
 
They visited a little boy recovering from a serious eye injury, and an 89-year-old grandma recovering from an arm injury. She lives independently and was helping a neighbor clear debris from Hurricane Sally aftermath.

On Friday, the teams visited Redeemer Lutheran School in Pensacola, Florida, St. Benedict Catholic School and Good Shepherd Preschool at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Elberta.
 
The weekend included visits to the public park in Elberta, private visits to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church on Saturday. On Sunday the teams arrived for meet and greets and attended drive through communion.
 
Diana said having the comfort dog and their handlers at their church and community was like having the hands and feet of Jesus present. She asks for continued prayers as another storm is forming in the Gulf of Mexico that could pose a threat to the communities.
 
"Whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two." (Matthew 5:41)

California Deployment Update

LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Aaron (St. John’s - Napa, California), Micah (Light of the Valley - Elk Grove, California), and Reuben (First Lutheran - Yuba City, California) have been serving firefighters, utility workers, and evacuees for weeks now as the fire devastation has reached a record of over 4 million acres burned. The Glass fire is only 26% contained and 30,000 people are still under evacuation orders, including the entire town of Calistoga, California. 2,774 firefighters from all over the state are fighting the fire.

Cal Fire said ground crews have now identified 235 destroyed homes in Sonoma County and 252 in Napa County. An additional 73 homes have been damaged in Sonoma County and 64 in Napa County.

Micah and Reuben Comfort Dogs and their LCC K-9 Ministry teams visited with firefighters at the SQF Fire Base Camp in Porterville, California last week.
 
Aaron Comfort Dog and his LCC K-9 Ministry team visited with evacuees from the Glass Fire at Napa Valley College and at the Crosswalk Church evacuation center.
 
The work will continue this week as teams visit the Sonoma County Base Camp in Santa Rosa and visit with firefighters.
