LCC K-9 Ministry Teams Comfort Law Enforcement, Family, and Friends of McHenry County Deputy Killed in the Line of Duty

McHenry County Deputy Sheriff Jacob Keltner (age 35) was killed in the line of duty on March 7, 2019. He was shot while attempting to arrest a man wanted on several warrants. This occurred in Rockford, Illinois, as Deputy Keltner was serving with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

Deputy Keltner was a 13 year veteran of the sheriff's department, and five year member of the fugitive task force. He comes from a law enforcement family, with ties to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office. He is survived by his wife, and two young sons.

The Illinois Critical Incident Memorial Team reached out to Patrick Quinn, LCC K-9 Police Ministry Coordinator, to invite LCC K-9 Police Ministry, LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry, and LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry teams to the visitation and funeral, at the request of Deputy Keltner's family. Teams met with family members, law enforcement personnel from all over the United States, and others who came to pay their respects.

During the visitation and funeral on March 12 – 13, LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog Julia was assigned to be with the family. At the funeral, the following Bible verse was featured. Amazingly, this happens to be Julia's Bible verse.

"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39
