LCC K-9 Ministry Teams Comfort Law Enforcement, Family and Friends of Illinois State Police Troopers Killed in the Line of Duty

Trooper Brooke Jones-Story (age 34) was killed in the line of duty on March 28. She was hit by a truck while outside of her police car during a traffic stop on U.S. Route 20 near Freeport, Illinois. Brooke was assigned to District 16, and was a 12 year veteran of the state police. She is survived by her husband, two stepchildren, and other family.

Two days later, Trooper Gerald Ellis (age 36) was killed in the line of duty on March 30. His squad car collided head-on with a vehicle heading the wrong way on I-94 near Green Oaks, Illinois. Gerald was assigned to District 15, and was an 11 year veteran of the state police. He was also a combat veteran of the U.S. Army, and served during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Gerald is survived by his wife, two children, and other family.

The Illinois Critical Incident Memorial Team reached out to Patrick Quinn, LCC K-9 Police Ministry Coordinator, to invite LCC K-9 Ministry teams to the visitations and funerals. Teams met with family members, law enforcement personnel from all over the United States, military members, and others who came to pay their respects.

It has been 22 years since the Illinois State Police lost two troopers in the same week. These two represented the 2nd and 3rd line of duty deaths of Illinois troopers in 2019. The 1st was Trooper Christopher Lambert (EOW/1-12-19), who was also assigned to District 15.

It's been 66 years since three Illinois troopers were lost in the same year. This year, three were lost in just the first three months, and the LCC K-9 Ministries were honored to offer comfort at all three.

This has been an extremely difficult time for the Illinois State Police. Please keep them, and the family and friends of all three troopers in your prayers.
