LCC K-9 Ministry Teams and Hearts of Mercy & Compassion Deployed to Louisville, Kentucky, Following Shooting at Old National Bank

On Monday, April 10, a lone employee attacked staff at the Old National Bank in downtown Louisville, killing five and wounding at least eight others, including two police officers, with several in critical condition. The quick response and heroic efforts of the Louisville Metro Police Department saved many lives. We pray for the families of those killed: Josh Barrick (40), Deana Eckert (57), Tommy Elliott (63), Juliana Farmer (57), and Jim Tutt (64).

Lutheran Church Charities was invited by Our Savior Lutheran Church & School in Louisville, Kentucky, home of LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Mercy, to serve the shocked and hurting community that has been greatly impacted by this tragic mass shooting.
 
LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Caleb (Immanuel – Valparaiso, Indiana), Magdalene (Cornerstone – Carmel, Indiana), and Mercy (Our Savior – Louisville, Kentucky) and their handlers will be present to listen to those who are grieving, bringing them comfort, love, friendship, hope, and prayer.

The students and staff of Our Savior Lutheran School shared prayer and devotion time with the K-9 Ministry teams prior to their departure to downtown Louisville.

On Tuesday, LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Caleb, Magdalene, and Mercy visited the 911 Dispatch Center shifts that took the frantic calls on Monday. Even though the operators and dispatchers always remain calm, they need love and comfort as they process that day. The handlers gave each 911 operator a single yellow rose in honor of National Telecommunicator Week which recognizes the people who dedicate their lives to public safety in our communities.

LCC Hearts of Mercy & Compassion has also deployed to Louisville. The hearts/markers will be placed at the designated memorial site for people to sign and leave condolence messages, pray, and pay their respects in honor of the five lives lost so far.
