LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Return to Santa Fe High School to be with Students, Faculty and Staff

After an intense week of being with the students, faculty, and the community of Santa Fe, Texas, the LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs were invited back to be with the Santa Fe High School students on Tuesday, May 29, when they returned to their first day back after the shooting tragedy that took 10 lives and wounded many others.

Six LCC K-9 Comfort Dog teams returned to Santa Fe, Texas: Abner (Bethany Lutheran - Austin, Texas), Damaris (Memorial Lutheran - Katy, Texas), Gabriel (Messiah - Houston, Texas), Martha (Bethany Lutheran - Austin, Texas), Pax (St. Paul - Fort Worth, Texas), and Rufus (St. Mark - Edmond, Oklahoma).

Last week, sixteen LCC K-9 Comfort Dog teams from seven states came along side those who were grieving and in need, including:

• Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) teams from Galveston County Texas
• The Red Cross stationed in the Family Assistance Center
• Santa Fe Independent School District teachers
• At a private event for over a thousand students of Santa Fe schools
• A hospital visit to an injured student
• Days at the high school vigil
• Visits with first responders

The LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs and their handlers made a difference by offering prayers and comfort during a time of shock and tremendous sorrow for everyone in the Santa Fe community. Please continue to remember students and their families, staff, faculty, first responders and the Santa Fe community in your prayers.
