LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Comfort Family After Losing Second Child to Batten Disease

The LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry was invited to be present during the visitation and funeral of Laine VanHoutan. Laine ached from losing her big brother Noah to LINCL-Batten disease in 2016 but felt the enormous love and support of her hometown of Downers Grove, Illinois and surrounding communities. Although she was a YMCA Adventure Princess, she forged ahead through each new day carrying with Noah the unbearable burden of Batten disease. Laine’s great adventure ended on March 20, 2018, at the too-young age of 12. Beloved daughter of Tracy and Jennifer VanHoutan and dear sister of Emily, Colette, and angel Noah.

The LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs brought comfort and the hope found in Jesus Christ to Laine’s family and friends for both the visitation and funeral which were held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Downers Grove, Illinois. They had been present at Noah’s services and were blessed to be there once again during this difficult time. The family remembers special comfort given to Laine by LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Shami who laid by her side to comfort her after Noah’s passing. Shami Comfort Dog is now permanently deployed serving the Saints which the family was very sad to hear.
