Lutheran Church Charities’ Hearts of Mercy and Compassion, Crosses for Losses (HMC) Ministry provides hearts and crosses to families and friends who have suffered loss or serious illness of a loved one. We rely solely on donations to cover the cost of materials to make them and shipment to get them where they are needed. Please help us continue to comfort people when they need it the most so that they know that they are loved.

Redeemer Lutheran Church Visits Family of Hospice Friend

LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Cubby and her handler (Redeemer – Fort Collins, Colorado) presented their first Mercy Heart this past Thursday, May 14, to the family of Brownie McGraw from Fort Collins, Colorado, who passed away in March. She loved when Cubby visited her at the senior care center where she was cared for in hospice care. Upon receiving it, Brownie’s daughter teared up and said, “You have no idea how much this means. All of the visits you did were so thoughtful and wonderful for Brownie … Cubby meant the world to her.”

Cook County, Illinois, Sheriff Deputies Die from COVID-19

Cook County Sheriff Deputies Richard O'Brien and Sheila Rivera passed away from COVID-19. On Friday, May 15, Cook County Sheriff Department Director of Community Outreach, Parris Williams, met with LCC staff members Rich Martin and Tim Laabs, and Terri Albright, DuPage County Sheriff and law enforcement handler for LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog Julia (King of Glory – Elgin, Illinois) to accept the Mercy Hearts designated with a Thin Blue Line. The hearts are being signed by teammates of the deceased and will be given to the families of Deputies O’Brien and Rivera. LCC is humbled in presenting these hearts to the families of the law enforcement community.
