Since January 24, 2020, LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog Julia (King of Glory - Elgin, Illinois) has been visiting with inmates at the DuPage County Correctional Facility. Cpl. Teri Albright makes Julia Comfort Dog available to counseling sessions offered through JUST of DuPage program.
Inmate Sean F. says Julia "gets me out of this place for a while," while Frank P. said Julia's presence "makes (him) feel like home."
“As the K-9 commander for more than 15 years, I truly understand the value a dog can make in someone’s life. They have the ability to create a bond that nothing else can,” Sheriff James Mendrick said.
“Cpl. Albright and Julia not only bring comfort to our incarcerated population but they also bring relief to our employees, victims of crime and even funeral services. The unconditional love these dogs provide can be a game changer for someone in distress.”
