LCC received a request for assistance from Pastor Hesham Shehab of Salam Christian Fellowship in Lombard, Illinois. Dear Friends, Salma, a Jordanian immigrant who was baptized at Salam Christian Fellowship, needs financial support for immigration fees. Salma came to the USA a few years ago looking for freedom of faith and someone to help her become Christian after she saw Jesus in a dream in Amman, Jordan. Salma first went to France, but nobody helped her learn more about Jesus. She went back to Jordan, but after a year met a Salam member on Facebook who encouraged her to come to the USA. Salma resigned from her job in Amman and flew to Chicago, trusted Jesus, and never looked back. Salma found a home and a community at Salam. Since she came to America, she has been able to support herself and her orphaned nephew back in her country of origin. However, Salma lost her car in a recent crash and she is under a lot of financial strain. She has replaced her car and, at the same time, needs $4,000 to pay immigration fees that will lead to her citizenship. Please show the love of God to our new sister in Christ and donate generously to this cause. In Christ, Pastor Hesham Shehab Salam Christian Fellowship Lombard, Illinois LCC received a request for assistance for a Jordanian immigrant from Pastor Hesham Shehab of Salam Christian Fellowship in Lombard, Illinois. Dear Friends, Salam is helping Samia, a Jordanian immigrant, get and register a car. Samia is a hard-working woman in her early 30s. She came to the USA after she made contact with a Salam convert in Chicagoland. Samia was baptized two months after she set foot on American soil and found work after 10 days after her arrival, and has never lived on welfare. We need $440 in order to register her vehicle. Please show the love of Christ to this new sister. Pastor Hesham Shehab Salam Christian Fellowship Lombard, Illinois LCC invites you to join us as we assist First Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Chicago, Illinois, and two other ministry partners, in ministering to new refugees. The three inner-city ministries are working together to create a store where the new refugees in Chicago can shop for items they need at no cost, such as gently used clothing, shoes, backpacks, toys, small household items, and luggage. This would be an excellent opportunity for an individual, a church, or any church group to hold a drive to collect the items. We ask that you fill out a Non-Monetary Donation Available form once you have the items ready for donation. CLICK HERE to fill out a Non-Monetary Donation Available form. Please call John at 224-373-0083 or Dianna at 847-287-6624 so we can assist you with delivering the items to the store. LCC received a request for assistance for a congregation member in need from Pastor Doug Widger of Grace Lutheran Church in Arlington, Texas. Dear Friends, Patricia is a single woman who worked as a childcare specialist and as a paraprofessional in education. She has been a member of Grace Lutheran Church for 40 years. Recently she has experienced a number of health challenges requiring hospitalization and rehabilitation. Medicare has declined payment of $3,640 of her most recent bill. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated as the family strives toward long-term solutions. Sincerely, Doug Widger Lead Shepherd Grace Lutheran Church Arlington, Texas If you are so moved, please prayerfully consider donating to help Patricia. Financial Assistance Needed for Thirty-Five Families Displaced by Condo Fire in Palatine, Illinois4/18/2023
Update: June 6, 2023 We are continuing to raise donations to help the families affected by a large fire that occurred at Windhaven Condominium Complex in the Village of Palatine, Illinois, on Sunday, March 19. This devastating fire displaced thirty-five families from 24 units. Each of these families lost their home, belongings, and vehicles. Several of these families are still living in a hotel due to difficulty in securing affordable housing. Lutheran Church Charities has partnered with Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and Partners for Our Community (POC) to provide security deposits and rental assistance for eleven displaced families thus far. Each of these families could not have moved out of the hotel and into a new apartment without generous donors. We hope to continue to assist a few more families as requested. Cristina Correa, Community Engagement Coordinator, expressed her appreciation for our support. “We are excited that families are finding apartments in the area and that you have so willingly partnered with us to provide for these residents' housing needs. Many thanks for all your help.” On Sunday, March 19, a large fire occurred at Windhaven Condominium Complex in the Village of Palatine, Illinois. This devastating fire has displaced thirty-five families from 24 units. Each of these families have lost their home, belongings, and vehicles. Currently, they are all temporarily staying in hotels or with family until more permanent housing arrangements can be arranged. The damage was extensive, so this will be a long rebuild and recovery period.
UPDATE (June 14, 2023) Chemotherapy is nearly halfway done. My white cell counts keep going dangerously low, to the point that hospitalization is now necessary. The strict chemo diet is expensive, especially when we are down an income. I find myself blessed that I can still be an active behind-the-scenes person with Youth Council, even if I don’t have the ability to be hands-on for the activities. I trust that God has me in His heart. Thank you for your support and your generous gifts to my family. Danika LCC received a request for assistance for a congregation member family from Pastor Marty Marks of Immanuel Lutheran Church in DeKalb, Illinois. Danika is an incredibly strong woman of faith. Through the challenges of the past weeks, she has continued to lead the youth group at Immanuel, including organizing and directing the Easter breakfast for our congregation. Recently she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. Due to her diagnosis and the risks associated with it, she had to close the in-home daycare she had been running for ten years. She’s looking for other ways to bring in money for her household because the financial needs of her family of four are too great for her husband’s income alone. But she needs to find income that can be made from home and on flexible hours because she doesn’t want to miss a moment with her children. Danika sits on our church council as the Chairwoman of our youth board, and her husband, Keith, is a member of the board of elders. No matter the challenge, they are at almost every worship service, and on the rare occasions they do not attend in person, they are engaged in online worship. The entire congregation is on this journey with them, and their heroism and strength of faith are an inspiration to us all. If you are looking for ways to help Danika and her family in this tough time, please prayerfully consider donating towards their new car fund. They only have one working car and have been having issues with its reliability. They had planned on replacing it just as Danika got her diagnosis, but they have needed to divert those funds to everyday needs like food, diapers, clothing for the kids, and medical bills. Thank you for your assistance and partnership in serving God's beloved who are hurting. Rev. Marty Marks Pastor for Campus Ministry and Church Administration Immanuel Lutheran Church, DeKalb, Illinois If you are so moved, please prayerfully consider donating to help this family in need.
LCC has received the following request from Pastor Matt Koenig of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Palatine, Illinois. Dear Friends, A congregation member has been hospitalized and in a rehabilitation facility with serious health issues for the past four months. She also utilizes a motorized wheelchair due to mobility issues. She has finally returned home this week but discovered that her 2012 Dodge mobility van ramp is not operational. She needs to have the ramp repaired and realigned at Mobility Works in Villa Park, Illinois, but needs financial assistance to do this. The estimated cost to repair is approximately $3,000. Please help make a difference in the congregation's member life! In Christ, Pastor Matt Koenig Prince of Peace, Palatine, Illinois If you are so moved, please prayerfully consider donating to help POP congregation member with wheelchair van ramp repairs. Kathy O’Day, Lutheran Church Charities Director of Disaster Response, received an urgent financial assistance request from Tim Richter, Director of Christian Education (DCE) at Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Myers, Florida, to purchase basic living items needed for very low-income community members in Harlem Heights recovering from the destruction of their homes from Hurricane Ian. Debra Mathinos, Chief Programs Officer of Harlem Heights Community Center, made the initial request for assistance to Zion Lutheran Church, one of their very involved community partners for the past nine years. This area experienced the hurricane-driven flood surge. All had 4’-8’ of water throughout their homes. Families had to be rescued, and all have lost what little they had owned. Most of these families are now living in fully gutted homes, old campers, and even some tents on their property – and they will be living like this for at least the next six months to a year or more until their homes can be repaired or rebuilt. Your Donations Will Help 40 – 50 Families in Need!
This will allow families to cook simple meals, have a place to sit and eat, and for children to do homework as they try to live as best they can in their gutted homes with minimal functional electrical outlets.
Zion Lutheran Church will purchase the needed items from local businesses. Tim Richter and Jan Boerman, L.E.R.T. leader from Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisle, Illinois, who is still serving in Florida, will deliver these needed items to the Harlem Heights Community Center for family disbursement as soon as they can.
Within the boundaries of Harlem Heights, there are 350 single-family homes, 400 apartments, and more than 750 children. Ninety-five percent of the residents were employed in the service industry on Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel Island. Due to the hurricane, their jobs and means of support are now gone.
Beginning last week and continuing, four L.E.R.T. volunteers from Trinity Lisle are serving out of Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Myers, Florida. Ed and Jan Boerman and Clay and Linda Arnold have been doing chainsaw work and helping homeowners salvage and pack belongings in their flooded homes.

Please prayerfully consider donating to help Lutheran Church Charities and Zion Lutheran Church help Harlem Heights families who are struggling and in need.
