Financial Assistance/Affordable Housing Needed for a Family of Grace Lutheran Church Staff8/16/2023
LCC received a request for assistance from Steven E. Stock, Acting Chairman at Grace Lutheran Church in Northbrook, Illinois, for one of their staff/church members. ![]() Greetings in the name of Christ: We have a member at Grace Lutheran-Northbrook who is also a teacher at our Seeds of Grace Early Childhood Development Center. Her family is in need of housing assistance, both in finding housing and any possible financial assistance. Ms. Nikki, along with her husband, Ron, and sister, Dawn, were told to leave their current apartment on August 5, 2023. A fellow staff member at Grace/Seeds of Grace has graciously secured housing for them at an Extended Stay facility. This current arrangement lasts through August 31, 2023. Nikki devotes much time to her children at Seeds of Grace and often steps up to work long hours when needed. As we know, Lutheran teacher pay is not always the best, and early childhood development educators earn even less in most instances. Ron works as a school bus driver and puts in as many hours as he can. Finally, her sister is disabled and cannot work. Nikki and Ron are very devoted to her care. Nikki has no other family to support them, and we believe Ron has no contact with his family. We are humbly asking for any assistance that Lutheran Church Charities may be able to provide in securing housing for them, whether it be help in finding affordable housing or financial assistance. Any guidance and help shall be greatly appreciated. In Christ, Steven E. Stock Acting Chairman Grace Lutheran Church, Northbrook, Illinois If you are so moved, please donate to help this family in need. If you are aware of affordable housing in a commutable distance to Northbrook, please contact Dianna Bonfield at [email protected] or call 866-455-6466.
![]() LCC received a request for assistance from Pastor Hesham Shehab of Salam Christian Fellowship in Lombard, Illinois. Dear Friends, Salma, a Jordanian immigrant who was baptized at Salam Christian Fellowship, needs financial support for immigration fees. Salma came to the USA a few years ago looking for freedom of faith and someone to help her become Christian after she saw Jesus in a dream in Amman, Jordan. Salma first went to France, but nobody helped her learn more about Jesus. She went back to Jordan, but after a year met a Salam member on Facebook who encouraged her to come to the USA. Salma resigned from her job in Amman and flew to Chicago, trusted Jesus, and never looked back. Salma found a home and a community at Salam. Since she came to America, she has been able to support herself and her orphaned nephew back in her country of origin. However, Salma lost her car in a recent crash and she is under a lot of financial strain. She has replaced her car and, at the same time, needs $4,000 to pay immigration fees that will lead to her citizenship. Please show the love of God to our new sister in Christ and donate generously to this cause. Dear Friends, Salam is helping Samia, a Jordanian immigrant, get and register a car. Samia is a hard-working woman in her early 30s. She came to the USA after she made contact with a Salam convert in Chicagoland. Samia was baptized two months after she set foot on American soil and found work after 10 days after her arrival, and has never lived on welfare. We need $440 in order to register her vehicle. Please show the love of Christ to this new sister. Pastor Hesham Shehab Salam Christian Fellowship Lombard, Illinois ![]() LCC invites you to join us as we assist First Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Chicago, Illinois, and two other ministry partners, in ministering to new refugees. The three inner-city ministries are working together to create a store where the new refugees in Chicago can shop for items they need at no cost, such as gently used clothing, shoes, backpacks, toys, small household items, and luggage. This would be an excellent opportunity for an individual, a church, or any church group to hold a drive to collect the items. We ask that you fill out a Non-Monetary Donation Available form once you have the items ready for donation. CLICK HERE to fill out a Non-Monetary Donation Available form. Please call John at 224-373-0083 or Dianna at 847-287-6624 so we can assist you with delivering the items to the store. Financial Assistance Needed for Thirty-Five Families Displaced by Condo Fire in Palatine, Illinois4/18/2023
Update: June 6, 2023 ![]() We are continuing to raise donations to help the families affected by a large fire that occurred at Windhaven Condominium Complex in the Village of Palatine, Illinois, on Sunday, March 19. This devastating fire displaced thirty-five families from 24 units. Each of these families lost their home, belongings, and vehicles. Several of these families are still living in a hotel due to difficulty in securing affordable housing. Lutheran Church Charities has partnered with Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and Partners for Our Community (POC) to provide security deposits and rental assistance for eleven displaced families thus far. Each of these families could not have moved out of the hotel and into a new apartment without generous donors. We hope to continue to assist a few more families as requested. Cristina Correa, Community Engagement Coordinator, expressed her appreciation for our support. “We are excited that families are finding apartments in the area and that you have so willingly partnered with us to provide for these residents' housing needs. Many thanks for all your help.” On Sunday, March 19, a large fire occurred at Windhaven Condominium Complex in the Village of Palatine, Illinois. Debra Mathinos, Chief Programs Officer of Harlem Heights Community Center, made the initial request for assistance to Zion Lutheran Church, one of their very involved community partners for the past nine years. This area experienced the hurricane-driven flood surge. All had 4’-8’ of water throughout their homes. Families had to be rescued, and all have lost what little they had owned. Most of these families are now living in fully gutted homes, old campers, and even some tents on their property – and they will be living like this for at least the next six months to a year or more until their homes can be repaired or rebuilt. Your Donations Purchased 40 Microwaves and 50 Chairs! |

Your Donations Will Help 40 – 50 Families in Need!
This will allow families to cook simple meals, have a place to sit and eat, and for children to do homework as they try to live as best they can in their gutted homes with minimal functional electrical outlets.
Zion Lutheran Church will purchase the needed items from local businesses. Tim Richter and Jan Boerman, L.E.R.T. leader from Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisle, Illinois, who is still serving in Florida, will deliver these needed items to the Harlem Heights Community Center for family disbursement as soon as they can.
Within the boundaries of Harlem Heights, there are 350 single-family homes, 400 apartments, and more than 750 children. Ninety-five percent of the residents were employed in the service industry on Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel Island. Due to the hurricane, their jobs and means of support are now gone.
