On Saturday, December 9, LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog Shiloh (Christ Our Savior – Dixon, Illinois) assisted the Lee County Sheriff's Department & Dixon Police Department with their annual Shop with a Cop event. Thanks to donations from community members, many less fortunate children will enjoy a Merry Christmas! "It is more blessed to give than to receive." Acts 20:35 On Sunday, November 12, Faith Lutheran Church in Marietta, Georgia, who is in process to get an LCC K-9, held a special Veterans Day celebration service to honor and thank veterans in their community. Veterans from a local VFW, retirement communities and other churches were invited to a service of patriotic music and videos with special lapel pins presented to all veterans and active duty military personnel in attendance. After the service, Faith’s LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry hosted a genuine BBQ luncheon in their decorated gymnasium. They held a “military trivia game” and LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry challenge coins were presented to the oldest veteran, the longest serving veteran, and the veteran who had been in the most foreign country duty stations. Missing military brothers and sisters were honored with the Missing Man Table. Faith - Marietta is grateful for all who serve and have served our great nation! Students from Immanuel Lutheran School Belvidere and LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs are a huge attraction when they ring the Salvation Army Bell. LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Kye and Bekah (Immanuel – Belvidere, Illinois) and Martha (Comfort Dog in Training) have been ringing the bell at Belvidere Shopko twice a week throughout the month of December. On Friday, December 15, LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Bekah and Kye (Immanuel – Belvidere, Illinois) and Martha (Comfort Dog in Training) received many hugs and pets from 2nd graders and their teachers at Lincoln School in Belvidere as they mourned the death of their classmate, student and friend, Elaiah. It was an honor to serve our Lincoln School friends!

Thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus Christ! For more than 27 years, St. Matthew Lutheran Church (LCMS) located at 2108 West 21st Street, Chicago, Illinois, has developed a unique ministry in the Pilsen Community to reach the growing number of homeless and unemployed people. St. Matthew is the only Lutheran church in the community with a Gospel-oriented mission to all the homeless and unemployed. The Comedor San Mateo Soup Kitchen provides hot meals to feed the hungry and shares devotions to feed their souls. At the same time, it provides services in English and Spanish in a poverty stricken community of mostly Latino families. During frigid winter temperatures, the soup kitchen's volunteers continue to cook and serve hot meals to the homeless, unemployed, seniors and poor families. The soup kitchen serves 200+ meals twice a week even though donations are down. Please consider supporting the important work of St. Matthew as they continue to reach out and serve those in need in their community. In the Name of Jesus, Pastor Sifuentes and Pastor Matthew Troester LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ezra, specifically placed by Lutheran Church Charities to the Lucas Country Court System in Ohio, has recently started his first days at the courthouse. He will be working on cases that are difficult to imagine, stepping into situations that are heart wrenching, but he and his handler will be right where Our Lord has put them to bring mercy and compassion to those in need. Ezra Comfort Dog remains an LCC owned staff dog supported by you, though he is handled by the great team at Trinity Lutheran Church in Toledo, with help from victims' advocates, the sheriff's office, and through a special invitation by the prosecutor's office. Want to know more about LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ezra and how to support his important placement in the court system? CLICK HERE to learn more With mixed emotions, Jan Boerman, Trinity – Lisle, Illinois team leader recently reflected on time spent in Florida as LERT teams continue to assist devastated areas in the recovery from Hurricane Irma. Through this experience, Jan realized there are many opportunities to receive God’s blessings in serving others in need or to give a blessing to those who may not know the love of Jesus. During recent LERT deployments to Florida, Jan went with Kathy O’Day, LCC Director of Disaster Response, to meet Pastor Glander, Director of the Amigos Center in Immokalee. Kathy and Jan became aware of a community of migrant workers who support the agriculture industry in Florida. Pre-existing horrible living conditions and added storm damage caused some of the most deplorable living conditions that Jan had ever seen. Her heart was and is saddened as there isn’t anywhere else for these people to go. They will continue to live in their condemned homes until help arrives. Under the coordination of Lutheran Church Charities, Jan asked the Trinity - Lisle LERT team and church to support the Amigos Center families with donations to purchase needed beds, bedding and appliances. And they responded very generously! Don and Barb Iehl recently joined Ed and Jan as they went back to Florida. While there, they helped to purchase, sort, and distribute all of these items to the families the church had adopted, as well as many others Kathy O'Day, who was also there, was purchasing for. Everyone worked together all week to assist as many families as possible, and it was heartwarming to know we made a difference and were able to touch many lives with the love of Christ. |
