LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Elijah (Our Redeemer - Wichita Falls, Texas) and his ministry team received the following thank you note from a lady the team visited in the hospital. The LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry touches people more deeply than we can imagine. Recently I was an inpatient in United Regional Hospital. It had been an exceptionally long and depressing day. My husband is unable to drive and is on a walker, and it's hard to get around easily, so I had been there for four days without visitors. One day, in walked into my room, the most beautiful dog with precious handlers. Elijah came to my bedside and raised on his hind legs to greet me. He looked me directly in the eyes and melted my lonely feeling away. I began to cry, and he put his head in my lap. What joy he brought me that day! He is a gift! Thank you for this beautiful ministry. I am sure he brings joy and comfort to all he visits. Thank you again! LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Adeena (St. John - Burlington, Illinois), Eunice (LCC Staff), and Mary (St. Paul's - Janesville, Wisconsin) were called to provide comfort to the family and friends of Grant R. Mullen of Janesville, Wisconsin, who died in an automobile accident at the young age of eighteen. Grant was a very active young man who spent his youth doing anything that kept him moving. In middle school, he was chosen to go to China as part of the foreign language program. He was a four-year varsity letter winner in track and field and wrestling, serving as captain in both his senior year. He had an adventurous spirit, which encouraged him to squeeze the most out of his 18 years. It was no surprise to see the outpouring of comfort and support to Grant’s family from family and friends. The high school Grant attended was right across the street from the funeral home. Estimates of six hundred or more mourners were lined up for over four to five hours to pay their respect to the family. They parked their cars at the high school and walked across the street to pay their respect and grieve together. The support for his family was a true testament to the people Grant touched. Two large Hearts of Mercy & Compassion were available for mourners to sign messages to Grant’s family. The hearts were full of messages of love and encouragement. On Tuesday, August 10, LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Jacob (LCC Staff) and Tobias (Tobias - Lord of Glory - Grayslake, Illinois) were invited by Prince of Peace, Palatine, Illinois to be present at the annual "Better Together" event organized by the city of Palatine, Illinois to kick off the school year. Free school supplies and goody bags from community partners were distributed to those who attended.
The Comfort Dogs with their handlers were stationed the Prince of Peace's booth where the attendees could get goodies and some dog cuddles! It wasn't a contest, but we were pretty popular! Thank you to everyone who made "Better Together" a phenomenal event on the hottest day of the year. Our collaborative partnerships makes this event a great way to kick off the school year. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. The National Night is held every year on the first Tuesday in August. This year's National Night Out was August 3, 2021. The LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs and their handlers had a wonderful time visiting with the communities and supporting the Illinois police officers of Kane County, Glendale Heights, Wauconda, and Wheeling, for their National Night Out this year. We cannot wait to return next year. "Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind." 1 Peter 3:8 2nd ROUND OF TORNADOES AND STRONG STORMS HITTING IN NORTHERN ILLINOIS WITHIN 60 DAYS Starting early evening on Monday, August 9, and continuing for several hours, strong storms with torrential downpours produced at least six tornadoes as part of an outbreak of severe weather in the Illinois counties of DeKalb and Kane. Tim Hetzner, LCC President/CEO, and Kathy O’Day, LCC Director of Disaster Response, closely monitored storms throughout the night to determine the hardest-hit areas. Early Tuesday morning, Kathy O’Day and LCC Lutheran Early Response Team (L.E.R.T.) chainsaw leaders Marty Johnson and Larry Zagorski began visiting homeowners in the affected areas to assess damage to their properties. Several large homeowner sites in Sycamore have been scheduled and clean-up work will start today. Each site will take 4 – 7 days to complete due to the massive amount of tree and property damage. LCC Disaster Response will be working out of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Elburn, Illinois, which has one of LCC’s L.E.R.T. and K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry teams. We will also assist several neighbors and complete additional assessments in this rural area over the next couple of weeks. LCC NEEDS YOUR ASSISTANCE TO HELP FAMILIES DEVASTATED BY DAMAGE! The LCC Disaster Response Ministry never charges those we serve. Please donate to the LCC Disaster Response General Fund or Equipment Maintenance & Fuel Expense Fund so that we may continue to show the Mercy, Compassion, Presence and Proclamation of Jesus Christ to those suffering and in need.
Scholarship Goal - $54,000 to Support 18 of the School's Total and Growing Enrollment through the 2021-2022 School Year Pastor John and Principal Geri Brazeal and Christ the King Lutheran Church and School in Chicago, Illinois, have been pillars of hope and life in their community for 47 years. They have served their community faithfully, and as it has changed, they have as well, even to the point of foregoing a salary to keep teachers and a part-time technical staff person employed. Their investment in the lives of the community has made a lasting impact. As they are preparing to begin a new school year, it is crucial that they can continue serving their community. Watch the video below for a message from Principal Geri regarding the impact of the tuition support provided last school year. Christ the King has a proven track record of students, who learned their worth in Jesus, keeping them on the straight path, focused on making a difference in the lives of others, and staying away from an inner-city life, which could be so very easy to fall into. Principal Geri recently shared that “many of the new students are children of Christ the King graduates,” thus illustrating that the ministry and education are of foundational importance, which is being shared through generations. Supporting Christ the King Lutheran School is an investment in an incredible ministry where life-changing relationships are established, and an incredible education is earned. Lutheran Church Charities K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry has been serving the California firefighters battling the Dixie Fire since July 25. The Comfort Dogs were invited by Shawna Powell, the Employee Support Staff (ESS) Battalion Chief for that fire. LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Aaron & Gomer (St. John’s - Napa, California), Micah (Light of the Valley - Elk Grove, California), Rahab (St. Andrews - Stockton, California), and Reuben (First Lutheran - Yuba City, California) and their K-9 ministry teams visit the Cal Fire base Camp at Silver Dollar Fairgrounds in Chico several times per week sharing the mercy, compassion, and presence of Jesus Christ with those brave men and women. The Dixie Fire has consumed 432,813 acres -- an area 3.5 times the size of Lake Tahoe, making it the third-largest fire in California history. The fire, which has burned an area equivalent to the size of New York's Central Park every 11 minutes for 24 hours, is 35% contained. Cal Fire firefighter Melissa Bell says being able to pet the Comfort Dogs helps boost morale when the firefighters come back after long and draining days on the fire line. "It just brings a whole other energy,” Bell said. The LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry will continue to support the California firefighters and support staff at their base camps as requested
