Cubby Comfort Dog (Redeemer – Fort Collins, Colorado)
I was invited to the Thompson Crossing National Night Out. I met so many wonderful humans including fire fighters and police officers. It was a pawsome night out! Gideon Comfort Dog (St. Michael’s – Bloomington, Minnesota) Last night I attended National Night Out at Redemption Lutheran Church in Bloomington, Minnesota. There was food and music and games, and we even had a special visitor. It was a night to remember and cherish as we got together with our neighbors to celebrate our community. Julia Comfort Dog (King of Glory – Elgin, Illinois) Tonight I went to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Elgin, Illinois, and had a wonderful evening at National Night Out. LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Chloe (Lord of Life – Elburn, Illinois), Levi (Immanuel – East Dundee, Illinois) and I made many new friends; amongst them was fire fighter C. Bradshaw and fire fighter J. Sardina, Genoa’s Top Dog, who is going to top dog training at the end of the month and her race-car driver husband (love his car). I met several amazing kids of all ages, and even had the pleasant surprise of seeing my friend Leyna who I first met at Walcamp this summer. Thank you God for the joy of friendship. Katie Comfort Dog (Trinity – Fremont, Nebraska) Last night I attended our community’s National Night Out. I met some really great police officers, adults and lots of children. I would call that a success! Rosie Comfort Dog (Atonement – Columbus, Ohio) National Night Out - what an honor to be invited along with police, fire, EMTs, and sheriff deputies to be part of this celebration. Please pray for our first responders. Thank you Jesus for calling people to this vocation. Sasha Comfort Dog (Island Lutheran – Hilton Head Island, South Carolina) It was a really great evening at National Night Out, hosted by St. John’s Lutheran Church! The community and local Police Department of Fairfax County mingled and enjoyed each other and the festivities...music, food trucks and cookout, games, face painting, bouncy house....everything you need for a great time in the neighborhood. It’s an honor to help serve the many fine people who protect and serve us all. Tobias Comfort Dog (Lord of Glory – Grayslake, Illinois) No amount of rain could dampen the fun (or stop the bubble machine) at the Round Lake Police Department celebration for National Night Out! This event enhances the police-community partnership, strengthens community spirit, and serves free hot dogs. Well done Chief Gillette and all the officers who organized the evening!
Rahab Joshua 2:11 “ When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below." In the Bible, Rahab demonstrated how faith expresses itself in action and how actions imparts faith. Rahab’s biblical story is found in the book of Joshua, Chapter 4 and Chapter 6, 17-25.
We look forward to training Rahab so one day she can become a LCC K-9 Comfort Dog and give comfort to those alone and in need
On Monday, July 30, three LCC K-9 Ministry teams from Nebraska joined Reuben Comfort Dog: LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Eddie (Peace Lutheran – Grand Island, Nebraska), Moses (Christ Lutheran – Grand Island, Nebraska), and Priscilla (Trinity Lutheran – Lincoln, Nebraska). Aaron Comfort Dog (St. John’s – Napa, California) and his team, joined the teams at the end of the week, deploying as soon as they returned home.
The LCC K-9 Ministry teams met daily with firefighters at the camp during breakfast before they left to fight the Carr Fire, and they met with them when they returned back in the early evening. Over 4,000 first responders and support individuals are working on this fire. During their days, the teams visited with evacuees at shelters throughout the area, a visit to the coroner’s office, a firefighters memorial service, and medical aid stations. “After being away from family and friends for weeks at a time, @comfortdogs makes it a little bit easier. Thank you @comfortdogs my day has been made!” “I met Moses and Priscilla Comfort Dogs today. I am deployed to the Anderson fairgrounds near Redding, California, in support of the Carr fire. They were both so soft and adorable. Thank you and them so much for the comfort you bring victims and first responders. I didn’t want to let go of them and as I walked away, I actually teared up a little.” Aaron Comfort Dog shared the following: “This little boy loved getting miniature me and of course being with his brave Dad.” So far, the Carr Fire near Redding has burned more than 163,000 acres and is 45 percent contained. The wildfire has killed two firefighters and five civilians, and has destroyed more than 1,000 homes. Conditions were extreme with temperatures over 100 degrees. Extra precautions were taken for both Comfort Dogs and handlers. Please keep everyone who has been affected by the fires in your prayers, 911 operators, and all the first responders who bravely put their own lives in jeopardy to serve their communities.
A single parent and caregiver to her father are starting over and expressed much gratitude and appreciation for the rental assistance given to move into a new home. Although she still needs furniture and other things, she is grateful to now have a place to call home again.
Another family with two children are very thankful that we have reached out to them and were willing to help with rental assistance. Although we had to speak through an interpreter, the tears of joy and hug of thanks was clearly conveyed. A single parent with four children was very excited to finally be able to move out of the cramped motel room they all have been sharing and into a new home this past weekend. She is so very appreciative and grateful for the rental assistance. She cannot believe how kind and caring people, churches, and businesses have been. She stated, “It means the world to me to see my children being cared for and about by so many in this community!” A family with three adult children will be moving into a new home this week. They received a donated voucher for Community Threads so they can shop for household items. They also received a handmade quilt from Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palatine, Illinois. Local LCMS churches and their members have also responded with many types of donations to assist these families. On Sunday, August 5, Kathy O'Day, LCC Director of Disaster Response, attended St. Peter Lutheran Church in Arlington Heights, Illinois to thank the congregation for their generous donation of their entire Sunday offering to Lutheran Church Charities to assist the families affected in the Prospect Heights fire. Pastor Micah Greiner also invited her to share with members about the families their donations will assist and how they can provide further help. The congregation is pleased to be able to share the mercy, compassion, presence and proclamation of Jesus Christ with any of the affected residents. LCC will continue to respond to requests for assistance through their partnership with the City of Prospect Heights. Please continue to pray for everyone impacted by this tragic fire. LCC will continue to provide Disaster and Crisis Response to our neighbors, bringing the Mercy, Compassion, Presence, and Proclamation of Jesus Christ to those who are suffering and in need.
