LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Triton’s Bible verse is Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
As Christians, we are called to follow Jesus’ example and live his life in our world. Please keep the team from Messiah Lutheran Church in your prayers as they go out and serve in the name of Christ. St. Peter Lutheran Church in Arlington Heights, Illinois, is working alongside Lutheran Church Charities to provide rental assistance through their generous offerings. They are also reaching out to families by delivering furniture donations. On Saturday, August 11, Brad Schroeder, Bob Vossel, and Dave Fischer from St. Peter’s helped a single parent family with assembling new bunkbeds for the children to use. The children were thrilled and the mother could not say "thank you" enough. She expressed that, “Your donation and act of kindness are so greatly appreciated.” As one of these volunteers said, “Helping today was a gratifying and humbling experience.”
A huge thank you to Walter E. Smithe Furniture in Glen Park, Illinois, for donating three couches to Lutheran Church Charities for Prospect Heights residents who lost everything in the fire. The residents who received these were thrilled with this donation for their new homes
Pastor Philip Zabell, LCMS California, Nevada, and Hawaii (CNH) District Disaster Response Coordinator, who we have been keeping in close contact with since the fires began, sent this note of thanks to LCC:
“Thank you to LCC for walking with us during this time of disaster in Northern California. Your prayers, the comfort dogs, and now the financial support are most appreciated. May God richly bless the people of LCC with continued vision as to how He wishes you to be instruments of His mercy to those impacted by disaster.” As of Sunday, August 12, this fire alone has burned 201,680 acres resulting in the loss of 8 lives and 1,077 homes. It is only 43% contained with many more homes threatened. And this is only one of the fires currently burning in California.
