This past weekend, the McHenry County LERT removed a large tree from a family member’s home in Hanover Park, Illinois. Alan Holm used his advanced chainsaw tree climbing skills along with ground support from McHenry LERT members. The team included Bruce Preston, Ron Jones, John Boelter, Brian Boelter, and Dennis Holm. The family was very appreciative of McHenry LERT’s hard work. On Monday, June 18, over 100 special education students and 50 staff had the most amazing day at Parkland Preparatory Academy in Streamwood, Illinois. They were visited by LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Tobias (Lord of Glory – Grayslake, Illinois), Zippy (Trinity – Roselle, Illinois), LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry Dog Brutus (LCC Squad), along with Comfort Dogs In Training Myra and Sage. Thanks to the wonderful dogs and their handlers, the school visit was a therapeutic one. The students were given the opportunity to experience calm, nonjudgmental love from all and work on life skills such as taking turns, waiting patiently, and talking to new adults. Parkland will talk about this special day for many months to come. Thank you LCC for giving these children such a beneficial experience.
Giving Hope and a Future in an Otherwise Hopeless Situation In 2012, LCC President/CEO Tim Hetzner spent a night in a tent city in Port-au-Prince, Haiti with a family of 7 children. Not one of the children had been in school because of their family's living situation and finances. After an LCC appeal, generous donors stepped forward to sponsor these and other children living in the tent city so that they could attend Christian schools. Six years later, the tent city is still there and LCC is still raising support for the children so that they can continue their education. Please consider sponsoring a child's education for the upcoming school year. Christ working through you to "defend the cause of the poor of the people, give deliverance to the children of the needy" (Psalm 72:4). Public and private education in Haiti costs money - there is NO free education. Our Lutheran schools also charge but are less expensive than the public schools. For $40 a month, a child can go to school, receive a daily meal and a uniform. $400 for a school year! Please consider sponsoring a child that they may have hope for their future and learn the wonders of the Lord! "Tell to the children the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done." (Psalm 78:4)
