Lutheran Church Charities was invited by Our Savior Lutheran Church & School in Louisville, Kentucky, home of LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Mercy, to serve the shocked and hurting community that has been greatly impacted by this tragic mass shooting. LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Caleb (Immanuel – Valparaiso, Indiana), Magdalene (Cornerstone – Carmel, Indiana), and Mercy (Our Savior – Louisville, Kentucky) and their handlers will be present to listen to those who are grieving, bringing them comfort, love, friendship, hope, and prayer. The students and staff of Our Savior Lutheran School shared prayer and devotion time with the K-9 Ministry teams prior to their departure to downtown Louisville. |
Please join LCC as we pray for the Louisville community during this incredibly difficult time and for all of the first responders who heroically responded to a very difficult scene.
LCC's K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry and Hearts of Mercy & Compassion Ministry never charge those we serve as we bring the Mercy, Compassion, Presence and Proclamation of Jesus Christ to those suffering and in need. We know that comfort is needed to help this shocked and devastated community and the first responders who serve them.
Members of First Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Las Vegas, Nevada, presented fellow members Keith and Diana Schneck a Heart of Mercy & Compassion (HMC) in thanks and well wishes as they move away. Diana was one of their original LCC K-9 Ministry handlers and was instrumental in getting their Comfort Dog ministry off the ground. Genesis 28:15 was featured on the HMC reading “I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go.” |
Immanuel has been the leading volunteer center for LCC’s HMC ministry for preparing wooden hearts and fish, as well as crosses and markers by sanding and painting over the last three years, involving thousands of parts. Immanuel has also been, for many years, and continues to be, a strong financial supporter for LCC overall and also supports LCC with numerous volunteers for various needs.
All in attendance were very appreciative of understanding better how their volunteer resources make such a positive difference in helping LCC carry out the mission of bringing the Mercy, Compassion, Presence, and Proclamation of Jesus Christ to those who are suffering and in need.
Lynda Streich was presented with a Heart of Mercy & Compassion (HMC) for her dedicated service as Interim President/CEO to LCC. Lynda continues to serve as a member of the LCC Board of Directors. The HMC included messages and best wishes from LCC staff and the Bible verse “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant!’” (Matthew 25:23) Lynda was grateful for the gift of HMC. |
Recently LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Abraham and Beloved (Trinity - Hicksville, New York) joined the Suffolk County Chapter of the LWML on their mission project to fill bags full of treats and snacks to be distributed to the local EMS and Fire Departments. Mastic Beach Fire and EMS were also presented with Hearts of Mercy & Compassion to recognize their service to the community and church. Each heart was signed by the women of the LWML Suffolk and Grace Lutheran Church, Mastic Beach, New York. | |

Thank you for supporting the LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs and Hearts of Mercy & Compassion Ministry at Michigan State University
The LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs and the Hearts of Mercy & Compassion Ministries were invited by Rev. Dr. Jamison Hardy, Bishop & President, English District of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, Rev. David A. Davis, The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod Michigan District President, Rev. Curt Dwyer, Lead Pastor, and Rev. James Robinson, Campus Ministry Pastor, at Martin Lutheran Chapel in East Lansing, Michigan, and Pastor Trevor Sutton at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Haslet, Michigan, to be present last week throughout the community.
LCC Hearts of Mercy & Compassion Ministry provided three hearts and crosses, one cross for each of the young students killed, and placed them at the memorial site.
The students, parents, faculty, and community are numb, devastated, and in shock and are still trying to comprehend the violence that struck this Michigan State University community. The LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs and their handlers spent time sitting with many affected, letting them gently pet and receive love and comfort from the K-9s.
The MSU community is in need of our support, love, presence, and prayers as they begin their journey of grief and healing. Each hour a gentle hug, a kind word, and a prayer for God’s comforting presence are needed. We pray for the MSU community, the families, and the loved ones of Brian Fraser, Alexandria Verner, and Arielle Anderson. We lift up the five others critically injured for strength, healing, comfort, and rest so they may go home soon to their families and friends.
You may not even be home yet but wanted to express my thanks to you, the team, and especially the "pups" for coming to East Lansing this past week and specifically to the Friendship House on Friday.
The visit meant so much to our international student community, and I only wish more of them would have felt comfortable to come here. I can see now that the healing process for our entire community, and especially our international community, is going to be a long process.
God Bless all that you do!
Dan Winter,
Executive Director
Friendship House MSU
