LCC received a request from Jackie Rychel, Ministry in Mission to help with medical expenses for a resident of Jacmel Lutheran Home.
The United Airlines Fantasy Flight to the North Pole took place at Chicago O’Hare International Airport on Saturday, December 3. Ten LCC K-9 Comfort Dog teams participated this year to bring a Magical Day to disadvantaged and ill children. The children and their families boarded a plane in the B Concourse and took off over Lake Michigan to arrive at the North Pole in the C Concourse. They arrived to cheers from Santa and Mrs. Claus, toy soldiers, gingerbread men, action figures, the Chicago Fire Department, and the LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs. The K-9s had a space for the children to pet, hug, and spend time with. The families received a photo of them with the Comfort Dogs and a mini stuffed LCC K-9 Comfort Dog for the children to continue to hug, hold and love. The day was filled with joy, love, and smiles for the children and their families celebrating life and the season! The following LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry teams participated in the event: LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog Benjamin (LCC Staff) LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Claudia (Trinity - Toledo, Ohio) LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Emma (LCC Staff) LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Gideon (St. Michael's - Bloomington, Minnesota) LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Hagar (Faith - Appleton, Wisconsin) LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Jael (Trinity - Portage, Indiana) LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Malachi (St. Matthew - Hawthorn Woods, Illinois) LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Mary (St. Paul - Janesville, Wisconsin) LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Samson (Zion - Marengo, Illinois) LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ruthie (LCC Staff) November 30 marked the 1st Anniversary of the horrific shooting at Oxford High School in Oxford, Michigan. It was a difficult day for the community as they reflected on the four precious lives taken too soon: Madisyn Baldwin, Hana St. Juliana, Justin Shilling, and Tate Myre. Many more were injured. There was no school held on the 1st Anniversary. The students, parents, and community were invited to be together at Common Denominator Coffee + Community. All students and first responders were provided complimentary beverages that day courtesy of Common Denominator Coffee and Community owners. LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Anna (Trinity - Toledo, Ohio), Caleb (Immanuel - Valparaiso, Indiana), Claudia (Trinity - Toledo, Ohio), Dove (Peace - Fremont, Indiana), and Jared (Holy Cross - Fort Wayne, Indiana) were invited to be with the community as they gathered to remember and honor the loss of those precious lives. In the morning, the Comfort Dogs spent time with the staff and preschool students at Journey. The teachers needed the love and support of the Comfort Dogs and handlers that day. Extra hugs were given to many that morning. A Heart of Mercy and Compassion signed with messages of love and support by members of Peace Lutheran and the handlers for Anna, Caleb, Claudia, Dove, and Jared was presented to Pastor Meckes at Journey Lutheran Church. Later that morning, the K-9s arrived at Common Denominator Coffee and Community and Legacy 925 to reunite with all those they met last year after the tragic shooting. The building was filled with students and parents all day long. They all wanted to be together. There were tears shed and lots of embraces. Most importantly, there was camaraderie. Many adults and children spent time with the LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs. Many hugs were given that day, as they were so happy to see Jared, Dove, Claudia, Caleb, and Anna again. It was important that the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry continue to walk alongside Oxford as they heal. The Oxford community is very much loved by the K-9 Comfort Dog teams. At the end of the visit, a Heart of Mercy & Compassion signed with messages of love and support was given to the Donnelly family, owners of Common Denominator Coffee and Community. They are essential to Oxford’s healing by providing a safe place for the students and community. On Thursday, December 1, LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry Dog Nigel (LCC Staff) visited the University of Illinois Chicago College of Pharmacy students. Kare 9 Nigel’s assigned duty was to bring much-needed stress relief to these students during their 1st year of studies to become a Pharmacist. After more than 90 minutes and many pets, Kare 9 Nigel can report; Mission Accomplished!
