 This past Friday, a check with your generous donations was presented to Pastor Hesham Shehab of Salam Christian Fellowship in Lombard, Illinois, serving Muslim refugees throughout the Chicago land area. The funds will help pay for medications for some of the people he serves. The losses and struggles of being a refugee and adjusting to living in America are difficult any time of the year.
The Christmas holidays just intensify the joys and losses for many refugees. The feelings of joy, peace, and newfound security are mixed with the loss of family and friends who died or were left behind in a camp or country of origin, the loss of home and all their belongings, their job, and their county. For some, this struggle is made worse by illness and the need for medical care and medications. Your donations throughout the year and especially during the holidays, have eased this burden for several refugees. Thank you for sharing the mercy, compassion, presence, and proclamation of Jesus Christ to these brothers and sisters in their time of sorrow and struggle.  Eight Wheaton and Warrenville area churches and 20 public schools in District 200 invited 729 families to participate in the annual Christmas Sharing program this year. St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton was one of three host sites that partnered with Gary Methodist and Trinity Episcopal of Wheaton. Together, these three churches served 233 families. St. John received donations of money, linens, non-food items, boxes, cleaning products, diapers, and gift cards from local businesses and organizations in the community, along with donations from church members. Families received fresh food and produce, gift cards, a box of non-food items, diapers, and more at the festive event. LCC received a request from Jackie Rychel, Ministry in Mission to help with medical expenses for a resident of Jacmel Lutheran Home.
