On Monday, May 20, LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog Dinah (Trinity – Auburn, Illinois) attended the visitation for Chief Valerie Sheldon of the Raymond (IL) Police Department.

Chief Sheldon died on May 16 from injuries she received in an off duty traffic crash. She was a 12 year veteran of the Raymond Police Department and it was a blessing to be there to offer comfort to her family and friends. Our prayers are with them all.

Vietnam Moving Wall

On Friday, May 24, the LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry traveled to Greenfield, Wisconsin, to attend the opening ceremony for the Vietnam Moving Wall. Despite rainy, cold weather, the ceremony was a very moving experience. Kare 9s Rhoda (Prince of Peace – Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin), Brutus and Flex (LCC Squad), and LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog Charity (Brookfield Lutheran – Brookfield, Wisconsin) met and greeted those in attendance.

Aurora Learning Center

On Thursday, May 23, LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry Dog Brutus (LCC Squad) and veteran Gene visited the children and staff at the Aurora Learning Center in Aurora, Illinois. The children loved meeting Brutus and asking questions about him in addition to veteran Gene’s military service.

22 Event

On Wednesday, May 22, the LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry hosted its monthly “22” Program and Dinner. The evening began for the 50-plus guests with a military program including the presentation of the colors, Pledge of Allegiance, National Anthem, and the Missing Man Table Ceremony. A meal of hot dogs, brats, and all the fixings was served. This was followed by a patriotic concert by LCC friends, The Arlingtones.

Military Appreciation Ceremony

The community of Cicero, Illinois, invited the LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry to their Military Appreciation Ceremony for the third year in a row. On Tuesday, May 21, Kare 9s Blitz, Brandy, and Brutus (LCC Squad) offered the attendees comfort as they remembered their loved ones and friends.

Carl Sandburg High School

On Tuesday, May 21, LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry Dog Brutus (LCC Squad) and veteran Gene were invited to meet and greet students and staff at Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park, Illinois. Everyone loved meeting Kare 9 Brutus and hearing veteran Gene’s stories about being a submariner and serving his fellow veterans with Brutus.

Peace Officer Memorial Service

On Friday, May 24, LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Lizzie (Trinity – Savannah, Georgia) attended the Peace Officer Memorial Service held at the Savannah Police Department.

The ceremony was held to honor law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty, and comfort was offered to many officers and citizens who attended this emotional remembrance service.

American Academy of Pediatrics

On Thursday, May 23, LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Eve (St. John’s – Lombard, Illinois) attended the office de-stress event at the American Academy of Pediatrics in Itasca, Illinois. Eve Comfort Dog did a great job at relieving their daily stress as shown by all of those smiles from the Chief Medical Officer and staff.

Urgent Appeal: Help Needed from Last Night’s Tornadoes, Storms, and High Winds

BAM! BAM! BAM!

Does it ever let up? I often ask myself that question! But we do not control the weather and all I know is this – in the midst of disaster and crisis God WORKS!! God always responds with His MERCY and COMPASSION to help those who suffer and are afflicted!

So – IT IS WHAT CHRISTIANS DO … we deploy and bring the needed help, resources, and PRESENCE of Jesus Christ to those who are hurting.

Last night’s storm did extensive damage in Jefferson City, Missouri, and Watseka, Illinois, to name a few.

LCC staff have been on the phone since early this morning, monitoring the situations from the storms that came through last night and into this early morning.

LCC has people on the ground since early morning in Watseka assessing the damage from 85mph winds that went through the town. Most electricity is out and downed cell towers. Tree limbs and trees are down on houses and roads. LCC has worked in Watseka in the past with flooding; this time it will be with cleanup and chainsaws to remove damage caused by the winds.

Jefferson City is now being assessed due to the extensive damage there.

We are deploying out starting tomorrow – Friday, May 24 – with the initial crews and a work day on Saturday and beyond for however long needed. LCC Disaster Response will be working through Calvary Lutheran Church in Watseka.

As we know more in Jefferson City (and other areas) we will deploy and provide financial assistance there.

We have been in frequent communication with Rev. Ross Johnson and Rev. Michael Meyer with Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) Disaster Response to coordinate efforts in Missouri, and Stephen Born, Central Illinois District (CID) Disaster Response Coordinator.

LCC continues to provide support in Nebraska with the flooding there.
