Vietnam Moving Wall

On Friday, May 24, the LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry traveled to Greenfield, Wisconsin, to attend the opening ceremony for the Vietnam Moving Wall. Despite rainy, cold weather, the ceremony was a very moving experience. Kare 9s Rhoda (Prince of Peace – Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin), Brutus and Flex (LCC Squad), and LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog Charity (Brookfield Lutheran – Brookfield, Wisconsin) met and greeted those in attendance.

Aurora Learning Center

On Thursday, May 23, LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry Dog Brutus (LCC Squad) and veteran Gene visited the children and staff at the Aurora Learning Center in Aurora, Illinois. The children loved meeting Brutus and asking questions about him in addition to veteran Gene’s military service.

22 Event

On Wednesday, May 22, the LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry hosted its monthly “22” Program and Dinner. The evening began for the 50-plus guests with a military program including the presentation of the colors, Pledge of Allegiance, National Anthem, and the Missing Man Table Ceremony. A meal of hot dogs, brats, and all the fixings was served. This was followed by a patriotic concert by LCC friends, The Arlingtones.

Military Appreciation Ceremony

The community of Cicero, Illinois, invited the LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry to their Military Appreciation Ceremony for the third year in a row. On Tuesday, May 21, Kare 9s Blitz, Brandy, and Brutus (LCC Squad) offered the attendees comfort as they remembered their loved ones and friends.

On Tuesday, May 21, LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry Dog Brutus (LCC Squad) and veteran Gene were invited to meet and greet students and staff at Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park, Illinois. Everyone loved meeting Kare 9 Brutus and hearing veteran Gene’s stories about being a submariner and serving his fellow veterans with Brutus.

Peace Officer Memorial Service

On Friday, May 24, LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Lizzie (Trinity – Savannah, Georgia) attended the Peace Officer Memorial Service held at the Savannah Police Department.

The ceremony was held to honor law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty, and comfort was offered to many officers and citizens who attended this emotional remembrance service.

American Academy of Pediatrics

On Thursday, May 23, LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Eve (St. John’s – Lombard, Illinois) attended the office de-stress event at the American Academy of Pediatrics in Itasca, Illinois. Eve Comfort Dog did a great job at relieving their daily stress as shown by all of those smiles from the Chief Medical Officer and staff.

LCC President / CEO Tim Hetzner Speaks at Prince of Peace – Palatine, Illinois

On Sunday, May 19, Tim Hetzner, President / CEO of Lutheran Church Charities, did a presentation at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Palatine, Illinois, titled "Three Days and Three Nights: How Can That Be?" In the presentation, he looked at the puzzling question – If Jesus was crucified on Friday and the tomb was empty on Sunday morning, where do we get three days and three nights? He also looked at the "apparent" contradictions in the Gospels surrounding the Passion Narrative of Jesus and showed how, when understanding the historical background, the "apparent" contradictions disappear!

Matthew Warrick Hikes Pacific Crest Trail to Raise Funds for the LCC K-9 Ministry

Matthew Warrick hits the road again, this time his mission is to raise awareness and funds for the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry. Matthew is a member of Bethany – Austin, Texas, home of LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Abner and Martha.

In 2017, Matthew thru-hiked the entirety of the Appalachian Trail: 2,190 miles through 14 states from Georgia to Maine in 107 days. On Friday, May 17, Matthew began his journey to hike the Pacific Crest Trail: a 2,650 mile hike from the boarder of Southern California / Mexico to Canada.

Matthew hopes to raise $10,000 for the LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs so that they can continue to help individuals and communities they serve, and when invited, deployed in times of crisis and disaster.
