LCC received the following email from Geri Brazeal, Principal, Christ the King Lutheran Church & School in Chicago, Illinois:
Dear Friends of Lutheran Church Charities and Jacob, I want to thank you for helping me. Pastor B [Rev. John Brazeal, Christ the King – Chicago, Illinois] said you guys bought me new clothes and also paid my tuition. I am happy I can stay at Christ the King. I also found out you bought me a birthday present. I can do my homework on my Google docs with it. I never ever had a Chrome Book before. Thank You. I would like you to pray for my mom so she gets better. I miss her. I would like you all to come to my baptism; I will let you know when my grandma comes back. My teacher will tell you, and bring LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Jacob and the other comfort dogs. Your friend, Zayd Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13 In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the calendar week in which May 15th falls as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. This year, the official dates for National Police Week are May 13 - May 19, but many activities take place outside these dates. For instance, the state of Illinois has a police procession from a Springfield church (following a "Blue Service") to the state capitol for a ceremony on the first Thursday of May each year. Activities in Washington, DC begin as early as May 2nd, but most are scheduled between May 13th - May 19th. There are several things that communities and churches can do to honor the fallen. First, we can all pray for the family, friends, and loved ones of those who have fallen, and for all those who continue to serve. Other options include:
In order to provide a much safer and efficient way to clear damage following disasters, it is becoming increasingly apparent that a boom lift is greatly needed for extensive tree removal. It would allow the LERT chainsaw operator to control their workspace in tight or hard-to-reach areas, and to cross over or around obstacles and work hazards when removing damaged limbs or trees that are high above the ground. It would complete the process of providing a safe and well done job for a homeowner.
Ed Boerman, Lutheran Church Charities Chainsaw Instructor and ISA Certified Arborist, has proposed the purchase of a new Haulotte 4527 Trailer Mounted Boom at a cost of $33,400. It comes with hydraulic outriggers and automatic leveling to allow operation in under 30 seconds. It can be towed by anyone with a standard half-ton pickup truck. It will come with the necessary safety harnesses and upon delivery training will be provided. This investment will benefit many churches and homeowners as LCC LERT teams continue to offer a professional and safe means of providing disaster response services to those in need. Please prayerful consider donating to help LCC Disaster Response support homeowners following a disaster. |
