Your Donations Are Sent Directly to Ukraine Pastors to Help Impacted Ukrainians |
Sergey Bevz (SELCU pastor in Dnipro) “Thank you for your letter and donations. Praise the Lord and thanks to all who donated! Now a very large flow of refugees passes through our city. In recent days, we have been forced to refuse many people accommodation for the night, as we have no places at all. We are trying to expand our capabilities, to do some work in the building, to make more places. Thanks for your prayers and support! May our Lord Jesus Christ bless you!” |
“I am very thankful for you and Lutheran Church Charities. In this difficult time for Ukrainians, it is very helpful and important to receive groceries, medicine, and other stuff and to hear that God remembers us and doesn't leave us. A lot of people around our Church already changed their attitude to the Church. We have some people who come to visit our prayer-time and worship services. God uses this time for changing hearts of Ukrainians. And this donation helps us in providing the Gospel to people and takes care of our neighbor. Thank you for continuing to pray for us.”
Valerii Verba (SELCU pastor in Nova Kakhovka, near Kherson) “Good afternoon from Ukraine. Thank God for the new day and the blessings of this day. I received your letter and the funds you spoke about have arrived. We thank the Lord and you for continuing to help and support the ministry in Ukraine. I will write more about the service that is accomplished through this. Please continue to pray for Ukraine. We bless you in the name of Jesus Christ!” |
On behalf of LCC, Jim Dunne and Pat Sweeny presented donations to Archpriest Mykhailo Kuzma and Nadiya Hnatyuk of the Ukrainian Church in Palatine, Illinois, to provide direct and immediate financial assistance to their contacts in Ukraine.
“Thank you so much for your help, it is indeed instrumental in these difficult times. My parents managed to evacuate to Poland and apply for Canadian visas. Now we're all waiting for the visas. Canada implemented a special program for Ukrainians, so it's much easier to get there than to the United States. So far they're recovering. They were in a pretty bad shape when they got to Poland but now they are recovering and feeling much better. Hopefully I will be able to see them soon. Thank you and God bless!”
LCC is also working directly with the Ukraine Lutheran Church (ULC) by working through the Lutheran Church here in the United States in fellowship with them!
Thank You for your support in being the hands and feet of Jesus to those suffering!
"Start by doing what is necessary, then do what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible."
St. Francis of Assisi
Seven months ago, Lutheran Church Charities was contacted by St. Peter Lutheran Church in Schaumburg, Illinois, asking for our assistance to find a home for a family of five from Springfield, Missouri. In September, Matthew McMillian received a double lung transplant (that is rarely done) after being transferred to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. To receive an organ transplant, the family must commit to living within 50 miles of the hospital. His wife, Samantha, and daughter, Madison, would be Matthew’s caregivers. His sons, Cole (21) & Simon (17), stayed in Missouri to maintain their home.
Since September, St. Peter and LCC exhausted every avenue possible to find even a 2-bedroom apartment that was affordable but without much success. On Wednesday, March 16, Matthew was discharged from the rehab center. Since the first of the year, Samantha and Madison have been staying in a hotel paid for until the end of March by a generous donor from their hometown.
But God had a different plan for Matthew and his family. The Friday before Matthew was to be discharged, LCC received a call about a possible house at Trinity Galewood in Chicago. After talking with the Site Leader Eric Hawley, he suggested that we come to look to see if it was inhabitable as no one had lived in the house for over a year; it needed extensive cleaning and repairs. On March 14, Kim Nyquist of St. Peter, two staff members from LCC, and Samantha met Site Leader Eric Hawley to determine if the house could be cleaned and fixed up enough to meet their needs. The work that needed to be done and furnishing was going to take at least a month, but one more month in the hotel would be better than a whole year in one hotel room.
On Saturday, March 19, Kim brought a few of St. Peter’s volunteers and started cleaning. Twelve days later, the house was cleaned, painted, repairs made, and fully furnished with furniture, household items, and supplies a family would need to move into a house. On Thursday, March 31, Site Leader Eric Hawley from Trinity Galewood, Pastor Hays from St. Peter, and a few people who worked on the house gathered to welcome the McMillian family and offer a house blessing on their home for the year.

Since July 2021, God has been financially providing for the family through numerous donors from the McMillian's hometown to donors who responded to LCC's newsletter appeals with monetary donations that were given to St. Peter to minister to this family.
To God be the glory who was able to accomplish for the McMillians what we, in our human attempts, could not. Praise and Thanksgiving to the Lord for allowing so many of us to be part of what He was doing.
The Sac PD Call Center coordinated with Fire & EMS, Sacramento County Sheriffs, Elk Grove Police Department, and CHP for the mass shooting on Sunday in Sacramento that left six dead and at least twelve injured. These dedicated people dealt with all the calls from the public as well as the radios for the first responders.
Last week, LCC staff members Dianna Bonfield and John Pejchl presented two checks of your donations to Pastor Jim Buckman of Faith Lutheran Church in Lake Forest, Illinois. Your continued support allows Faith Lutheran to keep doing God’s work and support a refugee family from Afghanistan and the family of a single foster mom of three who took in four nieces and nephews after the tragic death of a sibling. |
LCC thanks the Good Samaritan Ministry of Immanuel, Palatine, for covering the cost of the gas, and volunteer Steve MacKay and his Bible class for driving and picking up the furniture and delivering it to the veteran's home.
Thank you to LCC's generous donors for providing the furniture, including a five piece living room set, dining room table and chairs, and an armchair, among other items.
Mission: Haiti is setting up six one-day medical clinics in six different locations to fight COVID-19 that is still rampant in Haiti. The clinics are being planned for this week and next.
Ministry in Mission will provide thirty new mattresses for Children at the Center of Refuge Orphanage. The mattresses have been ordered.
Thanks to your support, both needs have been met!
With your generous donations, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ghana (ELCG) continues to drill wells that bring much-needed water into villages. They recently were able to drill wells in three locations in the Northern Region where the need is greatest. When the ELCG goes into a village and drills a well, the impact on lives is immediate and life-changing. More than punching holes in the ground, the ELCG establishes a relationship with the village and, with the help of the village elders, introduces the village to the Living Water. |
On Tuesday, March 29, the LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs visited students and staff in the College of Pharmacology at Roosevelt University in Schaumburg, Illinois. LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Myra (St. Andrews - Park Ridge, Illinois) along with LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry Dogs Brutus (LCC Squad) and Nigel (LCC Staff) and their veteran handlers brought some much-needed compassion and stress relief to the students during their preparation for final exams.
LCC Kare-9 Military Ministry and LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry answered the call to serve at a Yellow Ribbon Event in Boise, Idaho, on Saturday, April 2nd, and Sunday, April 3rd. LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry Dogs Aaron & Gomer (St. John’s - Napa, California) with veteran handler Tim Kramer (U.S. Air Force), and Reuben (First Lutheran - Yuba City, California) with veteran handler James Casner (U.S. Army), and LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Isaac (Redeemer - Spokane Valley, Washington) served at the event by bringing comfort and smiles to those who are being deployed and to those who just returned from their deployment, as well as their families. The LCC Kare-9 Military Ministry has become an important part of the Yellow Ribbon Events around the country. Our veterans and handlers are honored to serve the active military and their families at these events.
