Our ministry partner, Mission:Haiti, continues to support the ongoing needs in Haiti. LCC received the following urgent requests:
This past week seven LCC volunteers assisted Good Shepherd, Des Plaines, Illinois, in sorting and packing the contents of their church as it prepares to close. A special thanks to Mike Calato, Karen Rehnberg, Jen and Rob Fosness, Anna Overchuck, Eileen and Bob Desiron, and LCC staff member Wayne Kolweier for taking time out of their schedules to help sort and pack. Over three days, eight congregations were the recipients of all kinds of resources for their ministries. The ministries helped and blessed by Good Shepherd's generosity include:
During this most difficult experience of closing your congregation, a special thank you to all the members of Good Shepherd and Pastor Jeffery Leichman for stepping out and being a blessing to other congregations and ministries in sharing Jesus with those who are hurting and in need. This past week Fred and Kathy Vanstrom of the LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry squad picked up a donation of household items and small appliances and delivered them to the Midwest Veterans Closet that freely passes those donations on to military families and veterans and their families that are in need.
Thank you to Fred and Kathy Vanstrom for facilitating the Price medical donation pick up by the staff of Batavia Rehab & Health care this past week. 31 L.E.R.T. Chainsaw Team Members with Heavy Equipment are Serving in Devastated Areas for Two Weeks
The Learning Tree: Residential Schools for Children & Adults with Developmental Disabilities
Other LCC L.E.R.T. chainsaw team members joined the Southern District L.E.R.T. team in a combined effort to remove trees and debris from the properties of two neighbors. These are both large jobs that the teams will be working at for several days. Kathy O’Day continues to assess homeowner property damage for chainsaw volunteer assistance. Please donate to the LCC Disaster Response General Fund or LCC Equipment Maintenance & Fuel Expense Fund so that we may continue to show the Mercy, Compassion, Presence and Proclamation of Jesus Christ to those suffering and in need. Please keep the families affected by the tornadoes in your prayers, including all the LCC Disaster Response volunteers and staff as we serve in Alabama.
LCC works in coordination with LCMS Disaster Response national and local districts of the LCMS. Following the tragic shooting at King Soopers, Boulder, Colorado, on March 22 that took 10 precious lives, the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry was invited to serve this hurting community shocked by this horrific event. For two weeks following the shooting, K-9 Ministry teams from Colorado, Nebraska, and Wisconsin deployed to be present and share the compassion, love, and light of Christ with the community of first responders, residents, friends, and families of the victims. Bonnie Fear, LCC K-9 Crisis Response Coordinator, and Officer James Enters, K-9 Police Ministry Handler for LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog Charity (Brookfield – Brookfield, Wisconsin) share how the LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs, handlers, and ministry partners were there with open hearts to listen and be present with a hurting community and bring them hope and comfort through prayer. The K-9 Ministry teams were present for hundreds of people each day, including for nearby auto shop employees who helped people to safety that fled from King Soopers during the shooting: The LCC K-9 Ministry team with Cubby Comfort Dog met Chris at the King Soopers Memorial. He was teary-eyed but stopped to pet Cubby. As they were talking, Chris told the team he worked at an auto shop behind King Soopers. He first learned of the shooting when he heard gunshots and ran out to see what it was. He saw a man running away from the back of King Soopers, who then fell in the parking just outside the auto shop. Chris went out to check on him; he was in shock, shaking uncontrollably, and was unable to get up. Chris helped him up and inside the auto shop to safety and then returned to help other people out. He was able to help an elderly man with a walker and many others get to safety inside the auto shop. Chris and his co-workers moved the people to a safe spot in the back and stayed with them for many hours until they were cleared to leave; they then took people home. As invited, LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Cubby and Devorah and their ministry teams from Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fort Collins, Colorado, will continue to serve the Boulder community in the coming weeks and months. Lutheran Church Charities placed 10 hearts/crosses through our Hearts of Mercy & Compassion Ministry at the memorial site growing outside the King Soopers store in Boulder, Colorado, for people to leave condolence messages, pray, and pay their respects for the 10 lives lost, including Boulder Police Officer Eric Talley. LCC’s K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry and Hearts of Mercy & Compassion Ministry never charges those we serve as we bring the Mercy, Compassion, Presence and Proclamation of Jesus Christ to those suffering and in need. Please continue to keep the Boulder, Colorado community in your prayers.
On Easter Sunday, food was distributed to 100 families in Haiti. LCC received the following email from our mission partner, Lophane Laurent: Blessings to you, my friends from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I want to thank you so much in my people's name for helping them in that hard time and sadness where many people lose their jobs and parents cannot feed their families. You can imagine what you are doing when you support Mission Haiti to continue sending money to do the food distribution. That means a lot for us in Haiti. Thanks please to all of the members of LCC and especially our sponsors and donors for helping to feed this week 100 families and especially that they will be able to have a special meal Sunday. May God bless you and your families and your ministries. My family and I wish you all a happy Easter. Yes, Jesus is Risen Indeed! Alleluia Amen. Serving Jesus with joy, Lophane Christ the King, Chicago, Distributes Groceries to Those In Need Because of the partnership with “Put Your Hands Together” Food Pantry and Outreach, where Christ the King, Chicago, Illinois, receives food donations, Pastor John Brazeal, in partnership with a pastor from a neighboring church, delivers groceries each week to tent city residents in need. The bags packed by staff and students of Christ the King Lutheran School are a great way to teach how “to love your neighbor.” The two pastors set up tables on the corner of 63rd and Evans in Chicago, Illinois, where people in need drive up or walk up and take a bag of food for the week. Christ the King, Chicago, Thanks LCC Donors for Generous Contributions Towards Students' Tuition On Thursday, April 1, LCC volunteer Bob Morris delivered donations to Christ the King, Chicago, Illinois, for students' tuition. Because of LCC's kind donors, not only are the students getting an education from teachers who care, but more importantly they are becoming friends with Jesus. Reason to rejoice this EASTER: He has risen and lives with us. Pastor John and Geri Brazeal Principal, Christ the King Lutheran School LCC Thanks Good Shepherd, Des Plaines, for Donations On Monday, April 5, Miss Lilly Streich, a member of Immanuel Palatine, Illinois, and music major at Luther College in Decora, Iowa, picked up voice training books and sheet music/songbooks from Good Shepherd, Des Plaines, Illinois, to add to her library. Thank you, members of Good Shepherd. Even though it's a sad experience closing down your beloved congregation, your donations will serve other congregations, missions, ministries, and individuals like Lilly, who is preparing to serve God through the use of her musical talents |
