Your Generous Donations Help Support Grieving Family of Five and Expecting Sixth Child Soon3/14/2023
LCC received the following update from Pastor Doug Warmann of Trinity Lutheran Church in Roselle, Illinois: Dear Christian friends: Thank you for your generous support for the grieving family of five children and their mother expecting her sixth child in the next few weeks! Although it is a challenging task caring for so many children when you are pregnant, the mother has done an excellent job providing for them and training them to care for one another. After being away from work for several months for a work injury, the mother returned to work at UPS in January. The last month has been especially difficult as the mother as well as her oldest son, were briefly in the hospital to receive tests and follow-up care. It continues to be a struggle to find an affordable caregiver for so many children. She is also looking for a new home as their current home is quite small for six children. Your prayers and financial support have helped the family to survive during the last nine months. Thank you for your kindness! Please pray for a safe delivery, a healthy child, wisdom in adjusting to the changes that another child brings, and an affordable childcare provider. As the Lord leads, we invite your support for them. Pastor Doug Warmann, Trinity Lutheran Church, Roselle, Illinois LCC received a request from Rev. Kris Whitby, Rev. Kris Whitby, Assistant to the President – Mission and Ministry, Northern Illinois District, for communion ware, albs, and stoles to be given to the first Belize Lutheran pastor for our partner Church. Pastor Kris Whitby stopped by LCC Headquarters on Friday, March 3, to pick up the albs and stoles donated by Kathy Gerken from Immanuel, Glenview. On Sunday, March 5, he met with Arlene Schiestel at Living Christ to pick up the communion ware. Pastor Kris will go to Belize in late April to bring these items to Rev Micah Wildauer, Missionary at large, as they are building the LCMS presence in Belize. Thank you for your faithful donations to continue God’s work around the world. Early January of 2023, Lutheran Church Charities received a call from Jim Dolan of Illinois Joining Forces - Veterans Assistance Program asking if we could assist a homeless veteran and his family to extend their stay in a hotel for 10 days until they could be moved to another hotel. Thank you for your donations that enabled LCC to pay for the extended hotel stay and meet a number of other basic and spiritual needs. Partnering with the VA program, VA Hospital, and Illinois Joining Forces - Veterans Assistance Program, LCC was able to assist Jerry, a Navy Veteran, who was in the VA Hospital, and his wife Michelle and their 3-year-old daughter who were isolated and stranded alone in one room of a hotel for over a month. This past Saturday, LCC staff member, Dianna Bonfield was able to celebrate with the whole family as they were moving into their new apartment that the VA found for them. Thank you for providing hope for this family in need. On February 2, LCC volunteers Bonnie and Richard Habegger were able to pick up a donation of brand-new towels. The towels were surplus from the supplier for hotels in the area. LCC was able to distribute bath towels, hand towels, and wash clothes to the following churches and ministries to help those in need in their community:

With the price of groceries going up, your donations and support aid our churches in helping children and families to have wholesome food on their tables. Thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus to those in need.
In December, LCC connected with Professor Andrew Pederson, the faculty director of the Drama Department at Concordia University Chicago (CUC), about donating professional puppet ministry equipment. He shared with us that the University was reorganizing the Drama department and wanted to revitalize a puppet ministry they had a decade ago. When he saw the pictures of the equipment, he said it was a Godsend. The puppets and equipment they had were far from the quality of this donation. On Tuesday, January 24, all the puppet equipment was delivered to the drama department at CUC. Later that evening, Professor Pederson sent a thank you email saying, “The students are thrilled and buzzing with possibilities. We will use this gift well.” After numerous unsuccessful attempts to find a new home for the puppet ministry, it was through that phone call that God opened the door to where the puppets will be used to train future teachers and church workers to communicate the gospel through a puppet ministry. |
