The St. Peter, Schaumburg, Illinois Lutheran Early Response Team (L.E.R.T) worked on their church grounds this past weekend. They felled, cut, and removed four large 75-year-old trees that were diseased, showing hollow trunks and posing a danger of falling. These trees were located in the grove, where children play at recess, and the church uses for gatherings. Pastor Jerry Hays expressed his appreciation for making the grounds safe for school and in preparation for the upcoming 175th Anniversary celebration. The team will also remove damaged trees and trim hanging limbs in their cemetery in the coming weeks. Palatine (Illinois) L.E.R.T. She was very grateful for all of the hard work done, but especially for the mercy and compassion of Christ shown to her. More importantly, the team was able to use this workday as training for newer cutters to gain some experience in cutting and felling trees that were severely storm damaged. Chainsaw Volunteers Help a Homeowner with Tree Removal After Recent Storms After church, a visitor to Immanuel, Belvidere, Illinois, asked if they knew anyone that could help with removing a tree in her yard that was damaged from recent storms, as she did not have the means to take care of it on her own.

Last week, Kathy O'Day, LCC Director of Disaster Response, and LCC Lutheran Early Response Team (L.E.R.T.) chainsaw and heavy equipment operators assisted a homeowner in Streamwood, Illinois, clean up her storm-damaged yard of multiple downed limbs and a damaged tree. On Thursday, June 16, Sheboygan, Wisconsin, was one of the many towns that experienced tree and home damage due to high winds with storms that went through the state. Rev. Nathan Meador, South Wisconsin District Disaster Response Coordinator requested Lutheran Early Response Team (L.E.R.T.) assistance at Christ Lutheran Church and for a few congregation members that had storm damage. The following LCC L.E.R.T. team members served this past Saturday: St. Paul, Grafton, Wisconsin – Mark and Beverly Brueggemann, Stu Natale Trinity, Lisle, Illinois – Ed Boerman Pastor Chris Gugel from Christ Lutheran Church was very thankful for the L.E.R.T. chainsaw volunteers that cut and moved wood and brush from a large tree that was uprooted on the church grounds to the roadside for pick up. They also enjoyed a nice lunch with Pastor Gugel and his wife, who prepared the meal for them. Afterward, the team helped cut and remove a large limb that was downed in a congregation member’s backyard totaling out his shed. Tim was so appreciative as he did not have the capability to do this work himself due to his disability. He thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with the team that shared the mercy, compassion, presence and proclamation of Jesus Christ with him. The Palatine (IL) Lutheran Early Response Team (L.E.R.T.) spent two days serving at a WINGS home. They were able to thoroughly clean, sort, and organize used and donated items in the garage, kitchen, storage areas, laundry room, and other rooms of the home. They also power-washed the home and painted patio furniture. WINGS Family Advocate, Dara Nicole expressed gratitude to the following team members for all of their willing hands and hearts that cleaned and prepared the home for new residents: Immanuel, Palatine – Steve MacKay Prince of Peace, Palatine – Jim and Karen Beckley, Sandi Campbell, Richard and Bonnie Habegger, Mike and Lisa Kaminski, Kathy O’Day, Dan and Bobbie Swyndroski St. Peter, Arlington Heights – Lois Lehman On Saturday, Kathy O'Day, LCC Director of Disaster Response, eighteen LCC Lutheran Early Response Team (L.E.R.T.), and congregation members from Immanuel Lutheran Church in East Dundee, Illinois, worked all day at what will be the new Redeeming Life Outreach Ministries home in the Northern Illinois District. They were able to clear lots of overgrown brush and dead trees from around the home and the large property. Pastor Younker from Immanuel, East Dundee, visited the site to express his appreciation to the following volunteers who so willingly served to make this home and grounds safe and welcoming for future occupants:
