Because of your support Rev. Marky Kessa, Pastor at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Jacmel, Haiti, was able to provide a Vacation Bible School (VBS), which gave the children an opportunity to learn about Jesus and His love for them. In addition, meals were provided for the children, which, for many of them, was their one meal for the day. The VBS was so successful that Rev. Kessa decided to continue it as the children are traumatized from the earthquake, and VBS occupies their time bringing them closer to the Lord. Please consider donating to help support the continuation of the VBS in Haiti for the next several weeks.
Giving Hope and a Future in an Otherwise Hopeless Situation LCC has supported the education of students from the tent city in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, since 2012. Public and private education in Haiti costs money - there is NO free education. Our Lutheran schools also charge, but they are less expensive than the public schools. The cost of tuition is $50 per month. In 2020 the school year was interrupted by civil unrest in Haiti and then COVID-19. Our students finished the year with online learning. This September, they will all return full-time to their classrooms. This year four students will graduate from high school! Even though there is still unrest in Haiti, with protests nearly every week, the children have been faithful with their schoolwork and have been doing well in their classes. Thank you to everyone who has supported these children as they seek an education. Your generosity provides them with hope for a better life. Please consider sponsoring a child that they may have hope for their future and learn the wonders of the Lord! "Tell to the children the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done." (Psalm 78:4) Urgent Help Is Needed to Feed Haitian Adults & Children and Provide Life-Saving Hygiene Stations7/28/2021
Your Donations Are Saving Vulnerable Haitian Lives Every Day! Haiti is the only country in the Americas that has yet to roll out a coronavirus vaccination campaign. It is difficult for medical and other supplies to enter the country. Haiti’s airports are still closed to commercial traffic and dangerous protests continue every week. Your Donations Are Making A Difference in Haiti! Each and every day, our Haiti mission partner, Lophane Laurent, makes the difficult and often dangerous journey to remote parts of Haiti to deliver life-saving supplies to individuals and families. Watch the video to see Lophane deliver items to a mother and her young children at their home. Because of your donations, LCC has been able to send money to Haiti to purchase food and Hygiene Stations. We received a recent update from Lophane Laurent in Haiti:
Blessings to you, my friends! This is a little tent city where more than 5000 people live in bad conditions. I am working with a small church that mission Haiti used as a clinic for them. And I can tell how happy they were to receive the hygiene kits and some food. It was a great gift, like they told me. May God bless your families and the LCC Ministries! Please continue to help LCC and Lophane serve the most vulnerable – those who are suffering and have nowhere else to turn to for help. The need is still great, and your donations are desperately needed to help individuals and families in Haiti. Haiti, the poorest country in the Americas, is in extreme civil unrest following the assassination of its president, Jovenel Moïse, on July 7. According to AP News, "Haiti’s economic, political and social woes have deepened recently, with gang violence spiking in Port-au-Prince, inflation spiraling, and food and fuel becoming scarcer in a country where 60% of the population makes less than $2 a day." In addition, there's been a significant uptick in coronavirus cases and deaths, bringing the total to 19,347 confirmed cases and 487 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins University Covid-19 tracker. Health experts agree these are probably vast undercounts. It is difficult for medical and other supplies to enter the country. Haiti’s airports are closed to commercial traffic. LCC received an urgent plea for help from mission partner Jackie Rychel, Ministry in Mission: Our partners in Jacmel and other geographical areas are without a solution to get food, fuel, and necessary supplies delivered from Port-au-Prince. Gang violence is the latest prohibitor to any form of normal life in Haiti. The only road from Port-au-Prince to Jacmel is blocked, bringing business and employment to a halt because the roads are controlled by the gangs. Now there is no responsible form of government after the assassination of President Jovenel Moise on July 7. Pastor Marky Kessa has called on behalf of his community to ask for donations to purchase food. There is still rice and beans available in Jacmel markets, but it is costly and unaffordable to the general population. PLEASE DIG DEEP INTO YOUR POCKETS TODAY. THIS PLEA FOR HELP IS CRUCIAL TO THE IMMEDIATE NEED FOR THE PEOPLE WE SERVE IN JACMEL, HAITI. Please pray for LCC Haiti Mission partners to show the Mercy, Compassion, Presence and Proclamation of Jesus Christ to those suffering and in need.
If you are so moved, please donate generously to help LCC provide food for the most vulnerable Haitians. “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40 Haiti is the poorest country in the Americas and the only nation in the region that has yet to inoculate a single person against Covid-19. Haiti has reported approximately 15,430 coronavirus cases and 325 deaths, but it has no mass testing and the true spread is unknown. There is a high mortality rate and facilities are overloaded. Haiti has been in political turmoil during the entire pandemic. Lutheran Church Charities sends your donations to Haiti through our Haiti mission partners, who use them towards critical items needed to help save and improve the lives of the people of Haiti. Recently, LCC received requests from Ministry in Mission for support for critical needs. Please prayerfully consider making a donation to any of the funds listed below. Your gift will help Ministry in Mission continue to provide mercy and Gospel outreach to the poor, the orphans, the children, and the elderly in Haiti. $6,200 Needed for Hygiene Stations to Protect from COVID-19 Update: With your generous donations, our mission partners were able to begin buying and distributing Hygiene Stations. The need is still desperate for as many Hygiene Stations as possible. We received this update from Lophane Laurent, Field Director, Mission: Haiti: Blessings to everyone. I want to thank you for your support and prayers. These are the hygiene kits we were able to buy with the money you sent to distribute to the people in need. Covid is getting worse day by day, and there are a few hospitals that can take care of people, but most of them are closed because there is no support from my government, and the workers are afraid to leave their house to go to work because of the gangs fighting every day everywhere. Please keep us in your prayers. Lophane Laurent

$1,000 Will Bring VBS to Children in Haiti
$1,000 a Month Keeps Radio Concordia 98.5 FM Jacmel Haiti On the Air Rev. Marky Kessa, Pastor at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Jacmel, Haiti, has a vision for sharing the Good news of Jesus Christ in Jacmel. Part of that vision was to establish a radio station to broadcast church services, play Christian music, host Christian talk shows, and attract people to his church. Members of the church run the radio station. Sunday church services are broadcast weekly. Special church events are also broadcast. Radio in Haiti is a significant source of news, entertainment, and information for most Haitians. Many Haitians don’t have electricity, let alone televisions. Battery-operated radios are popular with the majority of people and are listened to day and night. Running and maintaining a radio station, like many things, is more difficult than in the U.S. The lack of consistent electricity makes generators, solar power, and inverters with storage batteries a necessity. In addition, the extremely warm climate causes the electrical components to deteriorate faster than in a more moderate climate. The cost to run the station is $1,000 a month. Your donations allow the continuing spread of the Gospel and allow the church members to use their media and technology talents for the glory of God. There was a recent outbreak of scabies in the mountain area in Haiti. Most of the families have 5 to 11 children, and they were in desperate need of medicine. Because of your generous donations, they were able to run a two-day clinic and serve more than 400 people.
Our ministry partner, Mission:Haiti, continues to support the ongoing needs in Haiti. LCC received the following urgent requests:
On Easter Sunday, food was distributed to 100 families in Haiti. LCC received the following email from our mission partner, Lophane Laurent: Blessings to you, my friends from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I want to thank you so much in my people's name for helping them in that hard time and sadness where many people lose their jobs and parents cannot feed their families. You can imagine what you are doing when you support Mission Haiti to continue sending money to do the food distribution. That means a lot for us in Haiti. Thanks please to all of the members of LCC and especially our sponsors and donors for helping to feed this week 100 families and especially that they will be able to have a special meal Sunday. May God bless you and your families and your ministries. My family and I wish you all a happy Easter. Yes, Jesus is Risen Indeed! Alleluia Amen. Serving Jesus with joy, Lophane
