On Wednesday, March 2, Kathy O'Day, LCC Director of Disaster Response, attended the 10th Anniversary Commemoration of the deadly and destructive Henryville, Indiana, EF-4 tornado. Kathy had been the case manager supervisor from March 2013 to April 2014 for the extensive community rebuilding process with the long-term recovery group March2Recovery. It was good to see how the towns have rebuilt homes and businesses, to visit with some of the families who received help and to join with staff served with at that time. It was a blessing to serve those in need and reconnect after many years.
Lutheran Church Charities K-9 Ministry is blessed to welcome two new adorable golden retriever puppies to be trained as LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs. The puppies are named Zacchaeus and Galilee. These sweet young golden retrievers will join their classmates Samaria and Lazarus at our training center in East Dundee, Illinois.
Galilee and Zacchaeus have already started to bond with their new volunteer apprentice trainers. Please follow them on Facebook as they begin their journey to become LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs.
Lutheran Church Charities is always recruiting new volunteers to help train these amazing animals. We will have more puppies arriving soon and need more volunteers to nurture and train them. If you are interested in joining us on this mission, please contact LCC at k9trainers@lutheranchurchcharities.org for further information or visit our website at https://www.lutheranchurchcharities.org/traink9s.html. Last week, LCC staff member, Deaconess Kathy O’Day delivered a $5,000 check for urgent funeral assistance to Pastor Duane Fluechtling at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thornton, Illinois, for a family that suddenly and unexpectedly lost their wife, mother, and grandmother hours after emergency surgery. Deaconess O’Day and Pastor Fluechtling were also able to visit and minister to Mr. B. and two of their daughters at St. Paul Lutheran Church. The family is very thankful for LCC donors who willingly gave to assist with the unexpected funeral costs, as they did not have the means to pay for these on their own. They shared many stories about their wife and mother, as well as tears, shock, and concerns for their family moving forward. All have a strong faith that God and their church families will surround them with care and carry them through this difficult time. LCC is grateful for your donations that have come in so far. Please prayerfully consider continuing to donate to help LCC recover the urgent funeral expense assistance provided to this grieving family in need.
