Your Donations Make a Difference

2/14/2024

Thank You for Your Generosity

The LCC Human Care Ministry team recently presented a check with your donations to Pastor John Brazeal and Principal Geri Brazeal of Christ the King Lutheran Church & School in Chicago, Illinois, to support the students' education.

The school continues to offer life-changing Christian education for children in an underserved area and ministers to the unhoused while providing housing for senior adults. Pastor John, Principal Geri, and the dedicated staff continue to teach the children the importance of offering mercy and compassion just as Jesus does for us.

No Hot Water
During our visit, we learned that all their water heaters, essential for cooking meals for the children and community, are broken. We ask for your help donating to cover the repair of the water heaters and restoring the school's hot water supply.

Please consider contributing to support this ministry and help them continue to provide essential services to those in need. Thank you for your generosity!
DONATE - Ministry Support, Christ the King
We invite you to watch the video to see how Christ the King Chicago serves people experiencing homelessness.

We are excited to share with you that your donations have made a significant impact at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Chicago. Last week, the LCC Human Care Ministry team team delivered a check to Pastor Cesar Sifuentes and Deaconess Elly Sifuentes that went towards their soup kitchen, where they serve over 100 people each day. The church also provides clothes, shoes, and other basic needs items at no cost to those in need.

With the increase in the number of people seeking assistance over the past few months, the church is grateful for your support and prayers. Together, we are able to share the mercy, compassion, presence, and proclamation of Jesus Christ to their community.

Thank you for your generosity and dedication to making a difference in the lives of those in need.

Rev. David Nelson, Interim Pastor, Saint Luke Church, Chicago, Illinois, is grateful for your financial assistance for Marcia and her family. Your support has made a significant difference in helping her maintain her property and financial stability.

Marcia and her family have been members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saint Luke in Chicago for over 60 years. She currently finds herself in a challenging financial situation and is struggling to meet the financial obligation of paying the first installment of her 2023 property taxes.

However, the current bill is more than her current resources allows her to handle. As someone who has always faithfully met her financial obligations throughout her life, does not want to fall behind on something as important as her property taxes.

It is her deepest desire to stay in her home but is fearful that she will not be able to
do so without, once again, calling on your gracious assistance.

Thank you for taking the time to consider her request

Sincerely,

Dr. David C. Nelson, Interim Pastor
Saint Luke Church, Chicago

We ask that you prayerfully consider donating to this cause and help make a difference in Marcia's life. Every donation counts and will go towards ensuring that Marcia and her family have a safe and stable home. Thank you for your generosity and compassion.

The LCC Human Care Ministry team collaborated with Pastor Todd Roberts at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Norridge, Illinois, to provide essential furniture for a disabled adult who recently moved into an independent living apartment.

We want to share a heartfelt thank you to individual donors and Junkluggers, who provided the furniture. We are also grateful to the volunteers who picked up and delivered the furniture.

Thank you for making Richard’s dream of having his apartment a reality.

Night to Shine

2/13/2024

726 Proms, in 56 Countries, on 6 Continents, and in all 50 of the United States

Picture
The Night to Shine event, sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation and centered on God’s love, is a prom night experience that celebrates people with special needs aged 14 and older. On February 9, 2024, hundreds of churches from all over the world came together to make this event a huge success.

The LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry teams have been participating in this event for years and were honored to share comfort and love to attendees and volunteers once again this year. The Comfort Dogs brought joy and love to everyone they met, making the Night to Shine event an unforgettable experience for all.

We are excited to share some of the highlights.

LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Hope (Faith - Marietta, Georgia) and her team added to the love of Jesus that was shown to the participants as they were showered with smiles and encouragement from dozens of volunteers.

LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Charity (Brookfield - Brookfield, Wisconsin) and Rhoda (Prince of Peace - Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin) were happy to greet everyone! They took their place in a special room where attendees could visit at anytime throughout the evening. We had the BEST time and were honored to be included in such a significant evening!

LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Gideon (St. Michael’s - Bloomington, Minnesota), Elijah (Our Redeemer - Wichita Falls, Texas), and Pax & Phoebe (St. Paul - Fort Worth, Texas) met new friends and were honored to serve at the event again this year. They shared that it was exciting to see the event more than double in size! Our job was to station in the sensory room and be available for those who needed a quieter environment. We were so excited to see the faces of the attendees as they arrived and as the night progressed, they enjoyed good food, great fun and made many memories.

Lutheran Early Response Team (LERT) Returns from Mission Trip in Belize

2/7/2024

Thanks to You, They Were Able to BE THERE

Last week, the following Northern Illinois District, Lutheran Church Charities LERT team members returned from their mission trip of service in Belize, which involved removing multiple dead and storm-damaged trees from properties of the LCMS mission Camp Concordia, the education center of the zoo, missionaries and congregation member homes.

Larry Zagorski, Max Metz - Lord of Life, Elburn
Marty Johnson and Anna Piro - St. John, Wheaton
Pete and Christel Springmire - Immanuel, DeKalb

Camp Concordia is the central point for various LCMS mission groups who come to help Pastor Herb Burch, his wife Markie, and GEO Missionaries Gary and Sue Kessler (from Lord of Life, Elburn) share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the country of Belize. Mission groups also help Pastor Benjamin and Karina Flores, along with GEO Missionaries Jordan and Justin Langston, who serve at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and School in the Valley of Hope. Most of the families from this community are refugees fleeing El Salvador and Nicaragua.
The Lord of Life LERT team had purchased a new Echo 355T chainsaw and extra bars and chains to use in Belize. At the end of the trip, the saw and a pick-a-roon were given to Eleuterio Muzul, Camp Concordia’s construction manager, to maintain the properties.

He and all staff felt they better understood how to safely use the chainsaw and the proper technique for felling trees because of the willing teachers. Marty and Larry also purchased and replaced worn parts and repaired their older camp saw and equipment.

Eleuterio is a skilled carpenter and his first usage of the new saw was going to be cutting a cross in a tree stump. He also took much of the wood from the many trees cut down to be milled to make items for the church or those in need.

He built the altar and area at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in the Valley of Hope using different types of wood to show the diversity of all God’s children. He is a willing servant, at the camp, church and pastors homes. He also brings his son and nephew to work every day to teach them how to work and serve with their hands.
LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry team from Immanuel Lutheran Church in East Dundee, Illinois, sent several mini stuffed LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs with the LERT team to pass to children.

They gifted one to GEO Missionary Langston’s child and the rest to Pastor Flores. He plans to give them to several special needs children he visits with in Belize.

Anna Piro shared the team's sentiment, "We all worked well together, falling into the tasks at hand. As you can imagine, there has been much joy and laughter throughout our trip with each other and those we worked with. Belize was good to us, and we have loved the people we met at Camp Concordia and Good Shepherd."

The Northern Illinois District and Lutheran Church Charities thanks each of these volunteers for their willing service in Belize. The Lutheran Mission Belize posted the following thanks on their Facebook page: "We are so grateful for the hard work of these Lutheran Early Response Team (LERT) volunteers this past week! They took down damaged and diseased trees in several locations throughout Belize, including at Camp Concordia. They have been a blessing!"

Please prayerfully consider donating to help with costs accrued on this LERT mission trip to Belize that served those in need.

Your Donations Make a Difference in the Lives of Those in Need

Thank You for Your Generosity

The LCC Human Care Ministry team recently delivered a check with your donations to Pastor Steve Deombeleg and Jayne Siou at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hillside, Illinois, to support their Put Your Hands Together (PYHT) Food Pantry. This pantry serves the community by providing food to those in need and also works towards encouraging other churches and food pantries in the area by sharing food with them when we have more than we can distribute.
Immanuel is currently raising funds for a new food pantry building and needs $50,000 to start construction. We encourage everyone to donate to this cause and help Immanuel continue their mission of serving their neighbors in need.

DONATE - Service Dog Assistance – St. Paul, Chicago
The LCC Human Care Ministry team recently delivered a check with your donations to Pastor Steve Warren at St. Paul Austin Church & School in Chicago, Illinois. The donations are intended to help cover the cost of an emotional service dog for a teacher at St. Paul who is dealing with complex PTSD. The emotional service dog helps interrupt flashbacks, awaken the person from night terrors that replay the traumatic event(s), and helps alleviate anxiety.

The teacher is grateful for the support and continues to ask for donations to cover the cost of the service dog. We encourage anyone who is able to prayerfully consider donating to this important cause.

Crosses Travel to Ecuador in Memory of Pastor's Four Children Killed in Crash

2/6/2024

Picture
In December 2023, Pastor Kurt Schilling of Emmaus Lutheran Church in Wisconsin and his wife Paulina suffered an unimaginable loss when they lost their four children - Daniel, Fabian, Lilian (9th grade), and Daniela (4th grade) - in a car crash. Paulina is originally from Ecuador, and Pastor Schilling was the children's stepfather.

Shortly after the accident, Pastor Steve Kline of Shepherd of the Hills in Greenville, Wisconsin, and a friend of Pastor Schilling reached out to LCC requesting Hearts of Mercy & Compassion and crosses to honor the children's memory. LCC was honored to provide Hearts of Mercy & Compassion, as well as crosses in memory of the children.

We were deeply moved to see our crosses carried high in front of each casket during the funeral procession in Ecuador, where the children were laid to rest. We pray for comfort and strength for the Schilling family during this difficult time, and we stand ready to provide support and care to anyone experiencing such a heart-wrenching loss.
