A Mercy Heart to Comfort

1/18/2021

LCC’s ministry partner church St. Paul in Fort Worth, Texas, furnished a Heart of Mercy & Compassion for another LCC’s ministry partner church, Gloria Dei in Houston, Texas. The Mercy Heart was presented to Belinda, who recently lost both her mother and brother.

Belinda is a handler for LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Joy (Gloria Dei - Houston, Texas). Belinda spends a lot of time working with and for the Comfort Dog ministry with scheduling, outreach, and cares for her teammates and the ones they serve.

Bull Run Elementary

1/18/2021

Bull Run Elementary School in Fairfax, Virginia, is one of the public schools that LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Amos (Our Savior's Way - Ashburn, Virginia) visited weekly before they moved to distance learning last spring. When our contacts there saw how Amos Comfort Dog was able to visit the Aurora Schools virtually, they were inspired to find ways to get Amos back into the virtual classrooms with their students.

Since February is National Kindness month in schools, the timing was perfect for Amos to teach the students about comfort and compassion. We decided to do a video that each class could watch that featured Amos sharing how he brings comfort, and then, with the help from his handler, he read the story "
Have you Filled a Bucket Today?" The classes will have a relevant curriculum throughout the month that will include scheduled Zoom visits for Amos to join their classrooms to continue to bring kindness, comfort, and compassion to and through the students.

The staff and students are so excited to have their friend Amos Comfort Dog back in their classrooms, bringing friendship and comfort where it is so needed right now!

Haiti

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Lutheran Church Charities sends your donations to Haiti through our Haiti Mission Partners, who use them towards critical items needed to help save and improve the lives of the people of Haiti.

Here are the most critical needs:

  • Haiti Shelter
  • Haiti – School Tuition
  • Food For Haitian School Children
  • Haiti – Goats
  • Haiti – Beds For The Elderly
  • Haiti – Hygiene Supplies
  • Haiti – Water Filters
  • Haiti – Shoes
  • Haiti Motorcycle Fund

Please prayerfully consider making a monetary donation to enable Lutheran Church Charities to continue to send funds to Haiti.

Israel

Four Homes of Mercy is a Christian run home for the emotionally and physically disabled children (many of whom are orphans) and adults in the poor area of Bethany, Israel - the very location where Jesus always stayed when he came to Jerusalem (home of Lazarus, Mary, and Martha, and Simon the Leper).

Most of the employees receive no income but volunteer their services and time. They are always in desperate need of resources to care for those who cannot care for themselves.

Here are the most critical needs:

  • Cold medications
  • Desitin
  • Digital thermometers
  • Glucose check machines and strips
  • Aspirin

If you are moved to help those who cannot help themselves, please consider donating. Dollar per dollar will go to getting these supplies and other needs to the residents of Four Homes of Mercy.

Funeral Procession for K-9 Loki

1/18/2021

On Saturday, January 16, LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog Julia (King of Glory - Elgin, Illinois) and her law enforcement handler attended the funeral ceremony for Boone County Sheriff’s K-9 Loki killed in the line of duty on December 27, 2020.

Boone County Deputy Robert Rosenkranz and K-9 Loki were conducting a traffic stop when a vehicle struck the rear of Deputy Rosenkranz’s squad. Thankfully, Deputy Rosenkranz was out of the car and only received minor injuries. K9 Loki, however, was in the vehicle.

Please keep the Rosenkranz family and our law enforcement family in your prayers.

Want to Help People Who Have Suffered in a Disaster?

1/13/2021

LAST YEAR alone in the United States, there were 22 major disasters from flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, and fires

To respond and help people – you need to be certified/credentialed – all of which LCC does

Consider taking LCC’s Online Disaster Response Training (L.E.R.T.)

Picture
To better manage volunteers and resources, FEMA has developed a guideline on credentialing volunteers for large-scale disasters. The federal guidelines indicate that volunteers responding to a disaster should be trained and certified. LCC is providing LCMS disaster response training for Lutheran Early Response Teams (L.E.R.T.). Should a disaster strike, these teams would be put on call and may be asked to deploy in 72 hours or less to the disaster site. This training will prepare a team member for credentialing and will focus on the safety, work, and ministry of Lutherans as Early Responders.

The registration cost for new L.E.R.T. volunteers is $35.00. As a refresher to update your ID, the cost is only $15.00.
Picture
NEW: Online Basic L.E.R.T. Training

This online LCMS Basic L.E.R.T. training is geared towards responding to a disaster with Lutheran Church Charities in the Northern Illinois District or wherever we are invited to serve nationwide.

For the online training, you will receive a letter with instructions to access the portal to view the Basic L.E.R.T. training sessions.

Upon verification of watching and completing all Basic L.E.R.T. training sessions and quizzes, LCC will then send your DR manual, badge, your personal certificate, and vest.

If your church is interested in hosting a Basic L.E.R.T. Training or if you have any questions, contact the LCC Disaster Response team at [email protected] or 866-455-6466.

Your Donations Make a Difference

1/12/2021

Thank you for your compassionate hearts and generous donations.
YOU are making a difference in the lives of the people who are suffering and in need. Thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus!
Pastor Kevin Kritzer of Bethany Lutheran Church in Long Beach, California, sent an email to LCC saying, “Thank you for your assistance to Salaam Ministries.”

Bethany is the sponsor and host congregation for Salaam Ministries of California, the West Coast branch of Salam Christian Fellowship of the Northern Illinois District (NID). Thank you for helping Salaam Ministries of California and Salam Christian Fellowship of the NID reach out and share the message and Gospel of Jesus with Muslims who need to know Jesus.

LCC presented donations received to Pastor Hesham Shehab of Salam Christian Fellowship in Lombard, Illinois, to assist two families that Salam is serving. One check was for a Syrian immigrant volunteer of Salam for a portion of the mortgage payment, and part of the check was to cover a portion of the cost of his medications. The second check was to cover an amount of the immigration fees for another family.
LCC presented Pastor Karim Yaghleji from Voice of Hope Mission in Lombard, Illinois, a mission to Arabic-speaking people in the Northern Illinois area, with a Cannon wireless color printer for the mission.
On Monday, January 11, LCC volunteer Bob Morris and LCC Ministry Director Nikki Deacon delivered your donations and four cases of takeaway food containers to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Chicago, Illinois. Pastor Cesar Sifuentes and Deaconess Elly Sifuentes continue to serve the St. Matthew’s community through weekly soup kitchen meals and by holding COVID safe, bilingual Divine Worship services along with hosting weekly Bible study classes. Pastor Cesar and Deaconess Elly are tremendously grateful to LCC donors for their continued support.
Picture
Bob and Nikki also went to Christ the King Lutheran Church and School, Chicago, Illinois, to deliver donations to benefit the school's students and support the Christ the King community. Christ the King has an excellent and vibrant violin program. Monday's violin lesson paused so that the students could join Pastor John Brazeal and Principal Geri Brazeal in accepting your gifts of love. John and Geri extend their deepest gratitude to LCC donors for their continued support.

LCC Thanks Donors for Helping Us Continue to Serve in 2021!
LCC wants to THANK everyone who helped us on our once a year 12/31 Annual Fund Campaign to cover our operating expenses. What comes in for our 12/31 Yearly Appeal determines our budget, which starts February 1st. Thank you for your support!

ISSUES WITH THE MAIL

We have been contacted by donors wondering if we got their donation check and, in some cases, found out we have NOT. The mail has been and continues to be running SLOW, to say the least.

Also, we have sent out thank you letters acknowledging your gift, and some have been returned because the Post Office says the address is wrong – WHICH WE HAVE VERIFIED IT IS NOT. We are trying to scan and email you the letter and also drop it in the mail again.

We sincerely apologize for any confusion, which is beyond our control, and we hope it all gets worked out soon! If you have any questions, please feel free to call us.

Thank you again for Making a Difference!
