We are ready to BE THERE! Posted: April 28, 2024
Lutheran Church Charities Disaster Response has been asked by Rev. Ross Johnson, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) Director of Disaster Response, to provide chainsaw and debris removal assistance with heavy equipment in communities around Omaha, Nebraska, and possibly in Minden, Iowa. Multiple communities experienced catastrophic EF-3 tornadoes on April 26th, causing widespread destruction.
Rev. Ross Johnson and the LCMS Ready Response Assessment Team will join Mick Onnen, Nebraska District Disaster Response Coordinator (DDRC), today and Monday to determine the extent of damages and assess sites for volunteer assistance. None of the churches in Nebraska were directly affected, but several families from Concordia Academy have been impacted. |
Rev. Ross Johnson will spend Tuesday with Julie Mann, Iowa West DDRC, assessing Minden, Iowa. This small town took a direct hit that has devastated almost all of the residents and businesses there.
Lutheran Early Response Team (LERT) volunteers are ready to deploy this week and assist those in need for the short and long-term recovery process. Lutheran Church Charities thanks our generous donors and volunteers for their willingness to serve.
We look forward to BEING THERE to provide mercy, compassion, presence and proclamation of Jesus Christ to those who are in need at this time. Thank you for your faithful prayers and support for all of the communities affected by the catastrophic tornadoes and those responding to assist.
