Apalachee High School shooting, 4 killed, including 2 students and 2 teachers, plus 9 more wounded
"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me." (Psalm 23:4) The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS) Florida-Georgia District President, Rev. James Rockey, and Pastor Tim Davis of Trinity Lutheran Church in Athens, Georgia, invited Lutheran Church Charities to bring Hearts of Mercy & Compassion (HMC) and LCC K-9 Comfort Dog ministry teams to provide support and presence for the community of Winder, Georgia, where 4 people, including 2 students and 2 teachers, were killed and 9 others hospitalized in a mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, on Wednesday.
"Our hearts are broken to view images of violence at the Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. In such a dark valley as this community walks through the shadows of evil, it is Jesus who can bring comfort, courage, and hope. Please keep all those impacted by this shooting in your prayers," said LCC President/CEO, Rev. Chris Singer. In response, Greg Beste and Tom Sandler with crosses and HMC of the Hearts of Mercy & Compassion Team from Island Lutheran Church in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Faith (St. Stephens - Hickory, North Carolina), Hope (Faith Lutheran - Marietta, Georgia), Jemimah (St. Paul - Boca Raton, Florida), Job (Christ the King - Memphis, Tennesse), Moriah (St. Luke's - Oviedo, Florida), Peace (Trinity - Orlando, Florida), Phinehas (Trinity - Fremont, Nebraska), Seth (Eternal Shepherd - Seneca, South Carolina) and Zoara (Island Lutheran - Hilton Head Island, South Carolina) with their dedicated K-9 handlers are deploying to Winder to be with the families, survivors, and the first responders who serve them. Joining them are three LCC staff members: Rev. Chris Singer, President and CEO; Sarah Sekki, Director of Hearts of Mercy & Compassion; and Haley Jensen, Digital Marketing Specialist. LCC places hearts and crosses and visits with LCC K-9 Comfort Dog ministry teams as a reminder to hurting communities like Winder that people across the nation love and support them. LCC seeks to provide those impacted by tragedy with opportunities to process their grief and receive messages of love and hope, ultimately finding solace only in Jesus Christ. Thanks to your support, we can BE THERE!
Please keep the Winder community in your prayers. May the Lord open doors for these teams to deliver the mercy, compassion, presence, and proclamation of Jesus.
