Four law enforcement officers killed,
and four officers injured while trying to serve warrant “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God." Matthew 5:9 In response to the shooting on Monday afternoon in Charlotte, North Carolina, that killed four law enforcement officers: Officer Joshua Eyer, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department; Officers Samuel Poloche and William Elliott, North Carolina Department of Corrections; and Thomas Weeks, U.S. Marshals Deputy, LCC-affiliated churches, LCC staff, LCC K-9 Comfort Dog teams, and Hearts of Mercy & Compassion volunteers came together to make a plan to BE THERE for the community. Their actions are inspired by their faith and guided by an overwhelming desire to help those in need. Several LCC K-9 Comfort Dog teams immediately started preparations to deploy.
Rev. Dr. Pres. William Harmon of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) Southeastern District and Pastor Steven Newberg of Ascension Lutheran Church, Charlotte, have extended an invitation to LCC to bring our K-9 Comfort Dogs and Hearts of Mercy & Compassion to provide support and comfort to the community and to help those who have been deeply affected by the tragic shooting of the eight law enforcement officers. |
LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry team for Faith Comfort Dog (St. Stephens - Hickory, North Carolina), with handlers Sandy Matthews and Melissa Mace, along with Ministry Partner Vicar Daniel Brummet, visited the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department today to provide comfort and BE THERE with fellow officers after the devastating loss of their comrade, Officer Eyer.
LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Peace (Trinity - Orlando, Florida), Seth (Eternal Shepherd - Seneca, South Carolina), and Zoara (Island Lutheran - Hilton Head Island, South Carolina) and their handlers are deploying to Charlotte to join LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Faith to be present and to listen to those who are grieving, bringing them comfort, love, friendship, hope, and prayer.

Lutheran Church Charities is sending Hearts of Mercy & Compassion in honor of the memory of the four officers killed.
We pray that these Hearts will serve as a reminder that people across the nation love and support them and that the community finds solace in the presence of these comforting reminders of the hope we find through Jesus Christ.
