14 killed, dozens injured in New Year’s Day incident

“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from Him. Truly, He is my Rock and my Salvation; He is my Fortress. I will not be shaken.” (Psalm 62:5-6)

Lutheran Church Charities and LCC volunteers are deploying to New Orleans, Louisiana, today to offer HOPE, care, and the presence of Christ to the hurting community after 14 people were killed and dozens injured in a New Year’s Day attack in the French Quarter.

Rev. Paul Ernewein, District Disaster Relief Coordinator for the Southern District of the LCMS, and Rev. Gregory T. Manning, pastor of Broadmoor Community Church and formerly of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in New Orleans, have invited LCC to bring Hearts of Mercy & Compassion, K-9 Comfort Dogs, and LCC Spiritual First Aid™ Care Teams to grieve with those who have been deeply affected by the tragic incident, including law enforcement officers, and to provide spiritual and emotional support.

LCC Care Teams will attend a community vigil today at 7 p.m. near Bourbon and Canal streets in the French Quarter. LCC will also be present at an interfaith service on Monday evening at St. Louis Cathedral. The teams also will set up Hearts of Mercy & Compassion for mourners to sign.

Your support can help us
BRING HOPE TO THE HURTING!

LCC President/CEO Rev. Chris Singer is calling on LCC supporters to pray for the families and individuals affected by the attack during this time of sorrow. Victims of the attack ranged in age from 18 to 63. Law enforcement has described the incident as “very, very, very traumatic.”
Pastor Singer is engaged in ongoing conversations with the Southern District and multiple LCMS churches to coordinate ongoing means of support.

“As we woke up in the morning of the new year, we were devastated to learn of the tragic news in New Orleans. Our hearts are broken for the 14 lives senselessly lost, for their loved ones and family, and for the many who were injured and scarred by this incident,” Rev. Singer said. “We lift our prayers up for them and ask that the Holy Spirit would be near to them now amid the sorrow and hurt. LCC will be present and will offer the hope and peace that can only be found in Jesus Christ.”
LCC places hearts and crosses at memorials and vigil sites and visits with LCC K-9 Comfort Dog ministry teams as a reminder to hurting communities that people across the nation love and support them. LCC seeks to provide those impacted by tragedy with opportunities to process their grief and receive messages of love and hope, ultimately finding the solace that can only come from Jesus.

Thanks to you, Lutheran Church Charities will continue to bring HOPE to the hurting, sharing the mercy, compassion, presence and
proclamation of Jesus Christ to those suffering and in need.
At LCC, we only go where we are invited.
We never charge those we serve.

LCC is able to offer this early response care because of generous and faithful donors and volunteers who are willing to give and serve.

“It is the start of a new year, and any financial support you can offer right now will go directly to helping the ministry work of our Hearts of Mercy & Compassion teams, K-9 Comfort Dog teams, and LCC Spiritual First Aid™ Care teams,” Rev. Singer said.

If you are compelled to give, please donate to the New Orleans Response Care Fund. Thank you for sharing in the Mercy and Compassion Ministry of Lutheran Church Charities.

Please keep the New Orleans community in your prayers. May the LORD open doors for these teams to deliver the mercy, compassion, presence, and proclamation of Jesus.

Thank you for being a part of Lutheran Church Charities ministries.

Serving Together in the Comfort of Jesus!
