K-9 Comfort Dog Survey Responses - Part 2

8/26/2026

What are some quirky habits that your Comfort Dog has?

Picture
Watching squirrels at the bird feeder - Boaz

Joy loves tennis balls, but she doesn’t play with them. She likes to take the covering off—so she doesn’t get one often. She also has bones to chew—they hold up better to “jaws of steel.”

Genesis gets really excited to see her handlers. She scrunches up her eyes and curls her “Elvis” lips.

Thomas likes to sneak socks away from their owners.

Dinah has to have a certain small blanket laid completely flat in her kennel to go to sleep at night.

At every team meeting, once he’s “free” Jared will go to EVERY team member to say hello, on his own without being told to do that. Another quirky, but cute, habit is he always holds his duck in his mouth while getting his paycheck.

Zacchaeus likes to curl up in the second row right captain chair of the van. I am not quite sure how he is able to make himself small enough to fit in that seat, but he makes it happen!

When Shamgar gets excited, he does his tippy tappy feet and dances in place.

Noah loves laying on his tummy in a frog leg or sploot position. He loves to lay in a doorway so he can see us coming and going.

When Fisher plays fetch, she loves to bop the ball into the air with her nose like she's playing volleyball!

Phinehas loves when there’s a full moon. He runs around the backyard, contemplating how he can jump up and grab the big, glowing ball.

Honey likes to remind us that we left our socks on the floor. She’s so kind to bring them to us and lay them at our feet. Thankfully, she doesn’t find them tasty!

Meshach dives and in midair he rotates so that he lands on his back and slides on the floor.

Saul does his crazy happy dance on his mat before every meal.

When Julia is playing fetch with a ball, if it's sunny outside she doesn't watch the ball in the air but instead chases the shadow of the ball on the ground. Once the ball lands on the ground she can't find it because there is no shadow anymore.

Claudia will watch TV especially Big Brother or the news!

Pax loves to search for geckos

She loves to sleep on her back all four paws in the air! She also has a love for chomping bubbles if she sees them! – Gethsemane

Zillah is a "leaf pouncer". We noticed this fun little trait when she was first placed with us. Even now, she will surprise us on a walk and pounce on a leaf. We also love how she curls her front paws inward- it often looks like she is making a heart.

When Mary gets home from a visit and her vest is off, she rolls back and forth on her back and rapidly paws at the air. We call it her doggy paddle moves.

Zechariah likes to put his whole face and head in the crook of your arm like he is trying to hide. If he only knew we can see the rest of his long, tall body.

Glory likes to cuddle up in the corner of the kitchen on her back with her legs up in the air!

When several other Comfort Dogs have all played and are laying down calmly, Lois loves to get them all wired up to play again. Lois then sits down and watches them all play.

Lazarus loves to go through his commands before eating, he does them so enthusiastically that he almost jumps to each command.

Sheba likes to lay with just her head on her mat or dog bed sometimes. Also, sometimes her eyes flutter when she is excited to see one of her people.

When he has playtime, Seth loves to chase 3 balls at a time and then as he runs he drops one and scoops up another without slowing down!

We discovered, when we were having HVAC problems, that Lizzie loves to lay with a fan blowing on her face.

After Triton eats, he always comes to my chair, puts his nose on my lapboard, so I can rub his back to burp him, which he really doesn’t need help with, if you know him!!

Salome likes to scratch her back on the back of a couch.

Olive loves to sleep with her feet and side on a wall!! She also rolls around in the grass kicking her feet in the air as well as enjoys sleeping with Pax Comfort Dog as her pillow when she gets the chance.

Phoebe plays a “nesting” game with her bed. Sometimes she ends up under it which is quite hilarious but she’s okay with it.

Joanna can juggle a ball between her front paws when laying on her back.

We have to watch Isaac when we are drying him off with a towel because he wants to grab the towel and play tug of war like a puppy!

When Persis sleeps, she is totally on her back and all of her belly showing and all legs up in the air. Head sometimes on her bed sometimes head is off onto the wood floor. Head upside down.

Gideon loves to roll in the grass and collect as many grass stains as possible.

Sharon likes to do a 'golden pretzel' where she bends around and upside down. So goofy!

Abraham gets excited to show you his ball and he has a happy “growl” he does when he brings it to show you.

Shadrach is intrigued by tennis on TV but is afraid of golf! (He also burps...loudly!)
Picture
Dove has a spot by her tail that, when itched, makes her do a headstand. Her head goes down on the ground, her butt goes up in the air, and sometimes a leg comes up off the ground. Also, everytime the ice maker runs, Dove is at full alert in case anyone wants to give her ice as a treat.

Samaria discovered a big fluffy dinosaur slipper at her caregiver home. The boy of the home had outgrown it and gifted it to Samaria. She never plays with it, just carries it with her and uses it as her pillow around the house.

Almost every day about an hour before his supper time, Job "camps out" in front of the door to the room where his food bowl is located, looking pitifully like he's going to starve if he isn't fed soon.

Charity loves to watch the birds that fly in and out of the trees around the backyard. It’s like watching a tv show for her. She could do it for hours!

Esther likes to watch the floor when her caregivers’ grandchildren are eating at the table. “Leave it” gets a work out!

When Believe is ready for bed, she walks towards her room, turns and looks at us from the hallway, and just stands there looking at us till we walk her in and put her in her kennel.

Sparkling lights on the ceiling - Eden

Zoara likes to lay on her belly with her back legs like a frog. We call her "Frog Dog" when she does it.

If anyone gets on the floor to relax, play a game, take nap or to give him his massage or brushing –Abednego gets to you as soon as possible and flops down beside you asap and put his head on your chest with a big smile on his face!

Jael has perfected a sleeping position that I’m pretty sure no one else can do! She folds herself practically in half—her head ends up by her hip—and curls herself up like the happiest little croissant you’ve ever seen!  And if that wasn’t adorable enough, she often puts her toys right on her hip so she can play with them. Somehow, she makes it look completely comfortable! I’m not sure how she does it, but one thing is certain… Jael is one very happy girl!

Michael has the BEST side eye in the world! He definitely has a way of letting you know exactly how he feels about a situation—without saying a single word! That look says it ALL. And honestly, it’s pretty hard to say “no” when he gives you that side eye without bursting out laughing! Michael: 1 His humans: 0

Devorah loves to drag her big cushy bed all over the house. She will even bring it downstairs because it’s cooler down there!

Magdalene really likes to watch television, especially dog tv on YouTube!! On occasion she may break the rules by barking at the animals on tv, especially the dogs!

Eternity is a goofy girl. She is very wiggly especially when she sees her favorite people! And she runs so fast that sometimes she trips and rolls!!
