K-9 AND HMC TEAMS FROM REDEEMER, FORT COLLINS, CO, BRING COMPASSIONATE PRESENCE TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF TRAGICALLY KILLED 16-YEAR-OLD ZANE

As the Heart filled with messages, young people were visibly uplifted by not only getting to sign the heart but also by the many messages already written on the Heart and Cross.

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)

On March 4, the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry teams for Devorah and Zacchaeus, and Hearts of Mercy & Compassion (HMC) Ministry team from Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fort Collins, CO, were honored to provide a compassionate presence at the vigil for Zane Wolters, a remarkable young man whose life was tragically cut short at just 16 years old. The teams were invited by the current teacher of Zane’s 8th-grade sister and cousin.

Held at Zion Lutheran School in Brighton, CO, the vigil drew hundreds of mourners, including classmates from various high schools, teachers, and coaches, all gathering to honor Zane's memory.

Zane was only 16 years old, but he left a lasting impact on everyone he met. He valued his faith, family, friends, neighbors, education, sports, and the great outdoors. Many of his classmates and friends donned camouflage attire as a gesture to honor him, symbolizing their respect and admiration for the young man who touched their lives in so many meaningful ways.

LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Devorah and Zacchaeus, alongside their dedicated team, provided a calming presence that truly made a difference. Attendees expressed their gratitude, sharing sentiments like, “Dogs make everything better” and “I feel better after petting the dogs.”

The Heart of Mercy & Compassion created a beautiful space for healing and connection as Zane’s classmates, friends, and community members gathered to honor Zane’s memory.

With a long line of attendees eager to share their sentiments on the Heart or Cross, the atmosphere was filled with love and support.

Zane’s grandmother poignantly remarked on how Zane, her hero, would have been touched by the outpouring of love, reminding us all of the impact of shared grief and compassion in moments of loss.

The collaborative efforts of the K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry and HMC teams exemplify LCC's mission to provide emotional support and comfort during such difficult times. Our teams are dedicated to walking alongside communities in grief, ensuring that no one feels alone in their sorrow.
