Last week, LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Abraham (Trinity – Hicksville, New York), Amos (Our Savior’s Way – Ashburn, Virginia) and Lily (Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd – Old Bridge, New Jersey) attended the visitation and funeral of firefighter Joseph Manuse in Rochester, New York. Firefighter Joe died after complications from a bee sting.
On Monday, September 9, the K-9s provided comfort to those attending the visitation. Some of the children from the family certainly enjoyed the comfort dogs and many individuals appreciated their presence. One man stated that it was nice to be given a reason to smile at such a sad time. LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry teams were joined by local chaplains and members of Faith Lutheran Church to assist with any prayer needs.
On Tuesday, September 10, the K-9s greeted folks as they entered the church prior to the service and provided comfort during the service.
The K-9s also had the opportunity to visit with the first responders of the Gates – Chili, New York community. A brief stop was made to Trinity Lutheran in Spencerport, New York to visit with some of the preschoolers and staff.
Firefighter Joe was a hugely respected man of the community, who served his department well. He spent time in the schools and it was evident by the attendance at the funeral that he will truly be missed.
