Hearts of Mercy & Compassion in Honor of King Soopers Shooting Victims

LCC Hearts of Mercy & Compassion, Crosses for Losses Ministry Affiliate, Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ft. Collins, Colorado, responded to the mass shooting at King Soopers in Boulder, Colorado last week, delivering 10 Hearts of Mercy & Compassion affixed to 10 Crosses for Losses. They were placed in front of the King Soopers grocery store in honor of the individuals who lost their lives in the shooting. Visitors could write personal messages of mercy, compassion, love, and hope on each of thee hearts and crosses.

Hearts of Mercy & Compassion have also been presented to individual employees at King Soopers and the Boulder Police Department.

A Mercy Heart in Memory of Logan

Recently, a Mercy Heart was presented to Wendy, an LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry Volunteer Apprentice Trainer, in memory of her three-month-old nephew Logan. Wendy will give the Mercy Heart to Logan's parents. The training class gathered together to pray for the family as they grieve the loss of Logan.

A Mercy Heart of Encouragement

On Valentine's Day, Priscilla Charles received a Mercy Heart and stuffie from LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Cubby and Devorah (Redeemer - Fort Collins, Colorado) to encourage and support her through a long, hard battle with cancer.

Priscilla lives in Louisville, Kentucky, and is a faithful follower and supporter of the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry.

A Mercy Heart in Memory of Nancy Kiehl

LCC ministries supporter Linda Bailey requested a Heart of Mercy & Compassion in memory of her sister Nancy Kiehl (66), who passed in May 2020 due to COVID-19. Personalized with Psalm 118:24, “This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

Linda shared with LCC’s Hearts of Mercy & Compassion Project Manager, Tim Laabs, the following: “Thank you so very much for filling my unusual request. You did a beautiful job on the writing, the woodworking, and packaging. My husband and I are so happy to be able to support the ministries of LCC. Again, thanks to you and your team of dedicated volunteers for my Heart of Mercy & Compassion and for the many you will continue to send.”

Mercy Hearts to Show Gratitude

Bradley Kuehn, a Financial Associate for Thrivent, presented four Hearts of Mercy & Compassion to three nursing homes, including The Grove in St. Charles, Clair Oaks, and Victory Centre in Bartlett, as well as the Cardiac Unit at NM-CDH in Wheaton, all located in Illinois.

All hearts were given in thanks to the staff for their hard work and commitment to those in their care. Hearts were personalized with 1 Thessalonians, which read, “We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers.”

A Mercy Heart in Remembrance of Pastor Ken Krause

On January 24, 2021, beloved Pastor Ken Krause of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Rockford, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly. The requested Hearts of Mercy & Compassion were signed by the members of Pastor Krause’s churches and have been presented to each congregation as a reminder of the love of Jesus has for each of us and in honor of Pastor Krause.

The hearts featured Pastor Krause’s confirmation verse Revelation 2:10 ”Be faithful, even to the point to death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown,” as well as Philippians 4:4 “Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again: Rejoice!"

To support Pastor Krause’s church communities, LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Bekah, Kye (Immanuel - Belvidere, Illinois), and Samson (Zion - Marengo, Illinois) served to bring a comforting presence to the grieving staff and students of Resurrection Lutheran Church & School, Concordia Lutheran School, and Mt. Olive Lutheran Church.

A Mercy Heart in Remembrance of Lindsay Overbay

Allina Health Clinic in Buffalo, Minnesota Mass Shooting: 5 shot, 1 killed

Pastor Pat Simmons, Senior Pastor, and Pam Lienemann of St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Bloomington, Minnesota, Top Dog of LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Gideon (St. Michael's - Bloomington, Minnesota) requested a Cross and Heart of Mercy & Compassion on behalf of the community of Buffalo, Minnesota, following a mass shooting at Allina Health Clinic in Buffalo that occurred on February 9. Lindsay Overbay, a Medical Assistant at the clinic, was killed, and three others were critically injured.

The Mercy Heart was signed by members of St. Michael's and delivered and placed at a pop-up memorial at the driveway to the Allina Health Clinic where members of the community can stop and pay respects and add notes. Lindsay is survived by a husband of nine years and two children, ages 8 and 5.

A Mercy Heart to Comfort

Deputy Chief for Boone County Sherriff Office requested three Mercy Hearts for fellow officers to sign on behalf of Police K-9 Loki, who perished in a tragic car accident. Loki’s partner and handler, Deputy Rosenkranz, was fortunately away from the squad car when a drunk driver crashed into the back of the vehicle with Loki inside.

Fellow officer Corporal Terri Albright, with LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog Julia ( King of Glory - Elgin, Illinois), took part in the funeral procession for K-9 Loki last week.

A Mercy Heart in Remembrance of a Retired Chicago Police Officer

A retired Chicago Police Officer, Sergeant Jim Healy, and a 38-year member of the Chicago Bag Pipes and Drums Emerald Society recently died of a heart attack after band practice. Fellow officer, Corporal Terri Albright, requested two Mercy Hearts on behalf of the band members who responded to LCC:

“Thanks for the hearts. The band loved them, and we signed them both. Giving one to the brother who is in the band and the other which was given to Jim’s wife. Thanks again so much”.

A Mercy Heart in Remembrance of Maria Gonzales

LCC ministry partner church King of Kings in Glenpool, Oklahoma, presented a Mercy Heart in remembrance of Maria Gonzales to Maria's husband, Jose. Pictured from the left is Maria's brother, husband, and mom (not pictured: dad and older brother).

Maria went to be with her heavenly father after a lifetime of health problems and many surgeries. She was only 32 years old. Her mother and Maria were a part of the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog (in process) ministry.
