A resident named Jeanette absolutely loves the dogs and she tells the trainers every time they visit how much she “loves these dogs” and thanks them over and over for bringing the LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs to visit. Jeanette collects each of the dog’s business cards every time even though she has a duplicate stack in her room.
However, on this visit, Jeannette was very upset because her stack of precious K-9 Comfort Dog cards could not be found. She did not know where they were and was near tears that her time collecting cards from all her visits were now gone. After her visits with the LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs in Training, Jeannette would look at all her cards and they would give her peace, comfort, and warmth. Jeannette cherished those cards until she saw the dogs and could kiss and hug them once again. The cards are a small reminder the joy felt by the presence of the K-9 Comfort Dogs and their handlers when they come to visit Jeannette and all of her friends. A special return trip was immediately made after this visit to give Jeannette another stack of cards to look at and hold, filled with sweet memories until the Comfort Dogs and their trainers return again. Jeannette will be a young 92 years old on Monday, December 10. What a blessing she is to many. The LCC K-9 Ministry received the following note for LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ruthie (LCC Staff) on November 20, 2018:
Dearest Ruthie, I have wanted to write to you and your owner for a very long time. You see, I am the woman who fell to her knees in front of you after the Parkland shootings. You came really close up to me and laid down against my legs. I explained to you and your owner that it felt like a “soft place” to land and to catch my breath for a moment. Your owner told me to take my time. I petted you with all my love. I have held onto your card, Ruthie, ever since that day. I keep it in my Rolodex files under “R” and in my heart forever. Thanks again – for all that you do – and for being there for so many sorrowed people.
