Our mission is to bring the Mercy, Compassion, Presence, and Proclamation of Jesus Christ to those who are suffering and in need. Our 12/31 Annual Fund Appeal is the one time each year we request you to support the overall ministry of Lutheran Church Charities. Your gifts to our Annual Fund help us continue to make a difference.

Through our LCC K-9 Ministries, we respond and deploy with boots and paws on the ground within 24 hours, often sooner, to any crisis or disaster situation we are invited into. We only go where we are invited, but this year those invites come in on a daily basis across the country! Your gifts allowed LCC to respond immediately to the mass shootings in:

Marshall County, Kentucky
Parkland, Florida
Great Mills, Maryland
Santa Fe, Texas
Thousand Oaks, California
And all too many others – many that are not mentioned on the news

Our LCC Disaster Response Lutheran Early Response Teams (LERT) were present and serving communities following disasters such as:

Historic floods in Watseka, Illinois
Condominium fires in Prospect Heights, Illinois
Tornadoes and flooding in Wisconsin and Northern Illinois
Hurricane Florence in North Carolina
Hurricane Michael in Panama City, Florida
Wildfires in Northern California
Tornadoes in Taylorville, Illinois

LCC Human Care Ministries work through pastors and congregations to provide financial, in-kind donations, people resources, and emotional and spiritual care for:

St. Matthew's El Comedor San Mateo Soup Kitchen - Chicago, Illinois: Secured donated turkeys and food for Thanksgiving through Trinity - Roselle, Illinois.
Christ the King - Chicago, Illinois: LCC Donors helped purchase new freezer and food to help feed 500+ elderly for Thanksgiving.
Working through Salam Christian Fellowship to provide Muslim refugees with furniture, household items, food, clothing, medical and financial assistance, housing, vehicles and more to open doors to share the good news of Jesus Christ.
Provide homeless veterans who have secured housing with move in essentials
Assisting individuals and families in crisis: Working through Christ the King – Chicago, Illinois, helped members provide clothing, school supplies, and tuition for 8 year old Zayd so he could stay with his elderly grandmother after he was abandoned.
Connecting churches and schools who have closed with ministries in need: Lutheran Special School and Education Services – Hales Corner, Wisconsin, recently moved into a new facility and was blessed by many critical donations from several churches and schools. They will now be able to add new classroom and programs for these special children they serve.
Vehicles to help those without transportation so they can secure jobs or go to their medical treatments.

LCC Donors Help Students at Palm Bay Prep Academy Affected by Hurricane Michael

The Lutheran Early Response Team (LERT) from Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisle, Illinois, has been coordinating a gift card program to assist children of the Palm Bay Prep Academy in Panama City, Florida. During Lutheran Church Charities' recent disaster response deployment, Trinity team leaders Jan Boerman and Skip Sorensen met with Pastor Paul McComack from Trinity Lutheran Church and Palm Bay Prep Academy Principal, Dr. Kathy Fontaine. They heard about the difficult situations these children and their families are now facing in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael. Many are now homeless and living in tents. Everything they own is gone!

Dr. Fontaine contacted Jan Boerman, Trinity Lisle team leader, to ask if any other assistance could possibly be provided to her students. She stated that many of these children are in desperate need of shoes and socks. She asked if it would be possible to provide a Walmart gift card for each student to purchase these needed items.

Through your generous donations, Lutheran Church Charities was able to support the Trinity Lisle LERT team in the purchasing and delivering of gift cards to Pastor Paul McComack to give to Dr. Fontaine for her students. Many of these students will now be receiving new shoes and socks for Christmas.

Dear Brothers and Sisters at Lutheran Church Charites and LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministries,

God bless you for all the work and comfort that you brought to Taylorville. Throughout this past week, people have come up to me and even called out to me from across the room, “Tell those Lutherans, Thank you. They did a fine job.” At our ministerial meeting Wednesday the director of CEFS said, “We can call the Lutherans if there is any need for more help.”

The children and the adults enjoyed the dogs. You may even get a few more volunteers to help with this ministry in years to come.

Shop with a Cop – Wheeling, Illinois

On Saturday, December 15, LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog Zippy (Trinity – Roselle, Illinois), along with LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs JoJo (Living Christ – Arlington Heights, Illinois) and Malachi (St. Matthew – Hawthorn Woods, Illinois) attended the "Shop with a Cop" event in Wheeling, Illinois. They assisted the police officers with bringing joy to the children as they shopped for gifts to help make Christmas a little brighter for these kids in need. The officers were also thanked for their service. May God bless them all with a Merry Christmas!

On Friday, December 14, LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Abbi (Elim Christian School – Palos Heights, Illinois) and LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry Dog Brutus (LCC Squad) set up in the Literacy Lab at Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park, Illinois, to help students and staff relieve the stress and anxiety of finals week. Students lined up to get a chance to see the LCC K-9s. Some even skipped lunch (a hard thing for teenagers to do) to be able to get their chance to receive the mercy and compassion that LCC K-9s can deliver.

I just wanted to take a moment to express my sincerest thank you for taking the time to come out and bring so much joy to our students, faculty, and staff at CUC. Having the Comfort Dogs come during finals week is always the highlight of the week for our campus and is loved by all. Both Tobias Comfort Dog (Lord of Glory – Grayslake, Illinois) and Emma Comfort Dog (LCC Staff) were wonderful and warmed the hearts of our students who often find it difficult to implement good self-care during this time. Thank you for all that you do and making the time to share this amazing experience with us.

Faith Lutheran Church

On Sunday, December 16, LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Barnabas and Isaiah (Trinity – Hobart, Indiana) and their handlers traveled to Faith Lutheran Church in Bloomington, Indiana, to share with the congregation how the Comfort Dogs have become the bridge for their handlers to bring God's mercy and compassion to the communities they serve and how Faith could be more active in their community. Members enjoyed learning more about the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry and spending time with the K9s.

Shop with a Cop – Yuba City, California

On Tuesday, December 11, LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Reuben (First Lutheran – Yuba City, California) attended the "Shop with a Cop" event in Yuba City, California. Reuben Comfort Dog helped to bring joy as members of the Sutter County Sheriff's Office met with children from the community that were in need of a little help. They all shopped together to see that every child has some gifts for Christmas.

Shop with a Cop – Lincoln, Nebraska

On Saturday, December 15, LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Priscilla (Trinity – Lincoln, Nebraska) and Nicodemus (The Rock – Seward, Nebraska) attended the "Shop with a Cop" event in Lincoln, Nebraska. They helped officers from the Lincoln Police Department bring joy to many children in need, as they spent time together shopping for Christmas gifts.

Jesus Christ said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." (Acts 20:35)

Bush 41 & Air Special Mission 41

12/11/2018

The LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry has been busy in the Houston, Texas area. Last week, Kare 9 Joy (Gloria Dei – Houston, Texas), veteran handler Jim Stoa, and her ministry team showed respect to Bush 41 and Air Special Mission 41’s arrival in Houston dedicated to the late President George H.W. Bush. The team spent a couple hours with the Houston Motorcycle Police prior to them escorting 41 and family to final service.
