L.E.R.T. Chainsaw Volunteers Led Cleanup Day at Frankfort Township’s Rosehill Cemetery On Saturday, the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church L.E.R.T. (Lutheran Early Response Team) volunteers from Frankfort, Illinois, led a cleanup day at Frankfort Township’s Rosehill Cemetery. It is Will County’s oldest recorded cemetery with some of the original graves predating the Civil War. It is a small community cemetery still providing burials today.
Doug Mark, the Cemetery Administrator, stated that this cemetery has not had trees, limbs, and overgrown brush removed in some time. He is very grateful for the hard work and leadership provided by L.E.R.T. volunteers, Joel and Lori Powless, Curt Murff, Mike Kostecki, and Ron Jones as well as for 14 different family members of loved ones buried at the cemetery who also assisted. All of the work completed, along with the care and respect shown was and will be greatly appreciated by families.
LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Cubby and Devorah (Redeemer - Fort Collins, Colorado), visited the 1st and 2nd-grade students and teachers at Zion Lutheran Church and School in Brighton, Colorado, after one of their beloved teachers passed away. Cubby and Devorah Comfort Dogs and their handlers spent time comforting about forty-five 1st and 2nd-grade students. The students and staff were full of questions, and the staff was very interested in all the work that the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry does to serve others. The kids enjoyed sitting on the floor and just petting and hugging Cubby and Devorah. The team left each classroom a mini stuffed LCC K-9 Comfort Dog and mentioned that if they felt sad about their teacher, they could see the stuffie and pet it if needed. It was a great visit to bring a bit of comfort to the students and staff at Zion who are still mourning the loss of their teacher. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Matthew 5:4 The congregation of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Concordia, Missouri, officially welcomed their newest LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Thomas. Thomas joins St. Paul's LCC K-9 ministry team with LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Jessy. The team of handlers was commissioned on Sunday, November 7. Joining them in their celebration were LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Boaz (Christ the King - Lake Ozark, Missouri), and Noah (Timothy - St. Louis, Missouri) with their ministry teams. God's blessings on LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Thomas and his ministry team as they share God's love with others. LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry is happy to welcome the following handlers from St. Paul Lutheran Church, Concordia, Missouri: Debra Demel, Katie Frerking, Beth Kruse, Sam Moore, Vickie Pottschmidt, Renee Ravanelli, Andrea Schmidt. Donations needed to provide food for children and their families Your generous donations have allowed LCC to provide scholarships for children living in the tent city in Port-au-Prince, so that they can attend a Lutheran school. One of the things that the school provides is a hot meal for the children every day. For many of these children, that is their one good meal of the day. Last year, food kits containing rice, beans, oil, spaghetti, and milk were distributed to the children and their families so that they could continue to eat daily during the Christmas break. The current humanitarian crisis in Haiti has made providing food for the children and their families all the more urgent. We received the following request from Lophane Laurent, Field Director, Haiti: Good morning everyone, I want to thank you for continuing to support our poor children to go to school again this year. You know our difficulties, trouble in my lovely country. The kids that we sponsor to go to school are living close to the schools, and those schools are still open, and the kids are safe going to school. This year if you think we should give the kids the same food we gave them in their kits last year, I think we should plan for $60 a child because everything has gone up. A 50-pound bag of rice that I used to buy in the past for $15 now costs almost $30. So the food now is very expensive. I can tell you that without LCC's support, all of our children would stay home without going to school. This is the reason why we are always praying for all of the members of LCC and for our donors and sponsors. If it is possible for you, can you please add more children to receive the food package we share with our kids in December? I know how LCC supports my people to get food in this terrible moment. Thank you so much, and may God bless all of you. Have a great day with God. Blessings, Lophane Please consider a donation to provide a Christmas present of food for the Haitian school children. $60 will provide a two-week supply of food for a child and their family.
LCC is asking for your help to provide a Christmas food kit for 100 children. L.E.R.T. Chainsaw Volunteers Help an Elderly Couple Remove a Dangerous Tree Last week, L.E.R.T. chainsaw volunteers Jim and Karen Beckley, Richard Habegger and Dede Thut from Prince of Peace, Palatine, Illinois, and Marty Johnson from St. John, Wheaton, Illinois, worked hard to remove a rotting and dangerous hanging tree over the house of an elderly couple. They were so thankful and relieved of the constant worry of the tree falling on their home. At the end of the day, the couple presented the team with a beautiful thank you note: The LCC Disaster Response Ministry never charges those we serve. Please donate to the LCC Disaster Response General Fund or Equipment Maintenance & Fuel Expense Fund so that we may continue to show the Mercy, Compassion, Presence and Proclamation of Jesus Christ to those suffering and in need.
LCC received the following thank you note from a homeowner for work completed by LCC L.E.R.T. volunteers: Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ at Lutheran Church Charities,
