And there is no way I could provide comfort like these beautiful pups did today. Thank you for being there." On Friday, October 27, LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs were invited to Davenport Funeral Home in Crystal Lake, Illinois to comfort the friends and family of Matthew Kischuk. LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs present were Adeena (St. John – Burlington, Illinois), Asher (Faith Lutheran – Lake Forest, Illinois), Butter (St. John’s – Algonquin, Illinois), Chloe (Lord of Life – Elburn, Illinois), Eunice (LCC Staff), Levi (Immanuel – East Dundee, Illinois), Susie (St. Peter – Arlington Heights, Illinois), and Tobias (Lord of Glory – Grayslake, Illinois). Pastor Peter Imlah with LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Eve (St. John’s – Lombard, Illinois) and Steve Harrison with LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Levi (Immanuel – East Dundee, Illinois) made a special visit to the Cook County Jail in Chicago, Illinois. Selected inmates are invited to participate in a program that is put on by Christopher Jacobs, a Chicago photographer, called “Seeing life through the lens of a camera.” The inmates are given cameras and asked to photograph around the prison. The Comfort Dogs were invited to participate and be photographed by the inmates in the courtyard of the prison. LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs have been invited back a number of times, not only for the beauty of the dogs but for the ministry and prayer that takes place with the inmates.

“We want to share this video with the many, many people that have supported us and continue to do so… What many may not realize is when this tragedy occurred we had a shift that had just secured for the night. They all turned around and came back to work. We also had many employees off duty that came in to work...all of this without being asked. What many may also not realize is they dealt with this tragedy putting their own grief aside, giving the best advice they could while feeling helpless...as for many moments there was still not a clear picture as to what was occurring. It's agony for a dispatcher and call taker not to be able to give clear direction, to solve your issues, to guide you through your pain and confusion. From the steadfast calm of our dispatchers on the radio to the call takers fielding the hundreds of calls flooding in, we didn't stop. "Do whatever you need to do to stay safe", "Stay where you are if you are out of the line of fire...we will come get you", "We are coming...take whatever cover you can!", and many similar statements were said over and over while trying to obtain every location of every victim while working cohesively with our partnering medical and fire agencies...who is also part of our family and who also share in our grief. After the calls subsided our behind the scenes heroes still continued on taking care of the rest of our community without taking a moment to grieve, some having been up for many hours already. As many know Las Vegas never sleeps...so neither did we. Even in the aftermath the calls didn't stop. We still needed to be there for the many questions the world had for us and we relive the tragedy with every phone call. But that's what we do...it's our calling. We support our officers and community and the many that visit us because for a few days this is their home too. In the days following there were no smiles, only heartbreak and grief. Then the LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs came... and well, we will let the video speak for itself... Music credit to The Goo Goo Dolls - Better Days” Thank you so much, LVMPD Dispatch, for this incredible tribute. It means so much to us. Please know that you, the Las Vegas community, and everyone impacted are in our prayers. |
