We don’t have the answers to these tragedies, but we do have comfort, reassurance and hope through our Risen Savior, Jesus Christ! LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry deployment teams have arrived at each location and are bringing comfort to devastated individuals, families, and the first responders who serve their community. El Paso, Texas Update On Saturday, August 3, a large crowd of back-to-school shoppers at Walmart in El Paso, Texas, were suddenly running for their lives when a young male began shooting throughout the store. After Mass Shooting Comfort Dogs Provide Love in Dayton (Tuesday, August 6, 2019 – WLWT) Some of the places LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs have been to in Dayton include: · Community Vigil on 5th Street (near shooting) · FEMA Disaster Recovery Center – Dayton Children’s Hospital Health Pavilion · FEMA Disaster Recovery Center – Trotwood-Madison High School · Dayton Convention Center · Miami Valley Community Action Partnership · St. Vincent De Paul Gateway Shelter for Women & Families While comforting individuals in the Oregon District where the shooting occurred, a young woman who was there that night shared this with our handlers while petting Anna Comfort Dog: “I could sit here all afternoon with the dogs. I live close and come here all the time. I was here that night and don’t want to remember the terrible incident that occurred in this neighborhood that I love so much. Now when I come here, I’ll remember being with the comfort dogs.” We don’t know why these mass shootings took place, but we know that comfort is needed at this time to help people heal! Help us to be the presence of Jesus Christ to the El Paso and Dayton communities.
LCC never goes where we are not invited and the LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs NEVER charge those we serve. We pick up all of our travel, hotel, and meals costs. We also always put Boots and Paws on the ground within 24 hours (often less) from the time we get the invite. Please help LCC as we bring the Mercy, Compassion, Presence and Proclamation of Jesus Christ to those who are suffering and in need. Together, we can be the Hands, Feet and Presence of Jesus Christ to frightened communities. Please support us by prayer and if you are so moved, help us with travel expenses. Lutheran Church Charities Disaster Response was invited by Pastor Craig Meissner of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Steger, Illinois to come and assist many of his congregation and community members who were still struggling with their flood recovery. On June 26 and 27, the towns of Steger, Crete and Chicago Heights in the Northern Illinois District had 6-8 inches of torrential rain fall overnight. According to the Will County Emergency Management Agency, flash flooding overwhelmed the roads and sewer systems and led to major flood damage to approximately 400 homes. These LERT team members from the following churches or teams were present: Good Shepherd, Elgin – Tony Rusenovich, David Vollrath, Dawn Weltzein Immanuel, Mokena – DeLynn Flannery Immanuel, Richton Park – Barbara and Phyllis Stuenkel Immanuel, Steger – Pastor Craig Meissner, Paul Sengstock, John Stachulak King of Glory, Elgin – Gary Kessler Living Word, Orland Park – Dale Johnson Lord of Life, Elburn - Rob Geiger We were privileged to have Rev. John Donkoh, President of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ghana, West Africa join our work team. He is visiting Lord of Life in Elburn, Illinois as they have supported his ministry and people for many years with donations and missionary trips to bring the love of Christ and improve living conditions for those the Church serves. Each family that was assisted this weekend was very appreciative and extended many thanks and hugs to all who helped. Many of the homeowners were elderly or disabled. Lutheran Church Charities LERT teams will be returning for at least two more workdays in the coming weeks to continue to offer the mercy, compassion, presence and proclamation of Jesus Christ and flood recovery assistance to those in need. Your donations to the LCC Disaster Response Fund are greatly needed to help LCC LERT teams continue to physically assist homeowners impacted by the floods. Please keep Immanuel Lutheran Church and their surrounding communities in your prayers during their long recovery.

SUPPORT NEEDED: LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Deployed for 2 Shootings in 24 Hours For the past couple of months, I’ve been hiking the PCT to raise money for K-9 Comfort Dog Ministries. An immediate need for comfort has arisen in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas after the recent shootings. My grandfather, Rev. Dr. Karl Heimer, and my uncle, Rev. Stephen Heimer, are collaborating with LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs to respond to the tragedy in El Paso. From my home church in Austin, TX, Rev. Martin Danner with Bethany Lutheran Church is assisting the deploying arrangements for this area. I ask you to support the K-9 Comfort Dog Ministries Travel Expense Fund. During his hike, Matthew is raising awareness and funds for the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry. Matthew is a member of Bethany – Austin, Texas, home of LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs, Abner and Martha. Matthew hopes to raise $10,000 for the LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs but needs your help! Please prayerfully consider donating to help Matthew reach his fundraising goal. Please join the entire LCC staff and LCC K-9 Ministry affiliate teams as we support Matthew in this effort and pray for his safety this summer. We thank Matthew for his generosity in support of LCC mission to share the mercy, compassion, presence, and proclamation of Jesus Christ to those who are suffering and in need.
